Hellerup Parkhotel

The Park Lane was a great choice for our 4-night stay in Copenhagen. It is a great suburban location close to plenty of shopping and restaurants. The rooms are small (from an American perspective) but the staff makes up for it with friendly and helpful service -- I'd give them an A+++! Very nice breakfast each morningm served until 11 am (so a gift to late risers!). We will stay here again!

This hotel was absolutely beautiful, that's the nicest thing I can say about it. Everywhere you looked, it looked great. But as you spend time within the hotel, you realize that the beauty seems to be hiding the issues of this hotel. The primary issue with this hotel is that the rooms are tiny, the standard rooms are less than 220 square feet (<20 square meters). That is just absolutely tiny (this is about the same size as a basic room on a Carnival Cruise ship). To make matters worse, the room isn't really designed well for that size. For example, there is nowhere in the room, except the floor, to put a large-checked sized piece of luggage, nonetheless two for a couple. Are there lots of drawers so you can unpack? No, every single drawer was full of stuff. A third, I repeat a THIRD, of the "closet" is devoted to a minibar. I had to put my laundry in a pile under the desk because there literally wasn't anywhere else to put it. Why didn't this hotel put storage under the bed? Or give you nightstands with drawers? I don't know, but it was infuriating to have stuff everywhere because there wasn't anywhere to put it away. Then you get to the bathroom, there is a reason why the hotel doesn't show the bathrooms in full on their website. They're tiny. Like unbelievably small. And similar to the room, they're also set up in a way that makes using it infuriating. Why would you use glass sliding doors that are barley opaque and offer absolutely no privacy?!?!?!?!? Why would you put in a sink faucet that doesn't allow you to change the rate of flow of the water, causing it to splash EVERYWHERE because the sink basin is tiny and shallow. And similar to the "closet" the storage of the bathroom is full of crap that I don't want, making it impossible to store your own stuff. I don't need another mirror, there is a giant one built in to the wall! Amenity kits are great, but if you have a tiny bathroom, with limited storage, why waste the space, just let guests request them from the front desk? The shower itself wasn’t any better, the rain-head showerhead was very weak and due to the size of the shower, left no area to later up before getting doused with water. And similar to the sink, there was no way to change the flow of the shower, just one setting- either weak rain or power hand wand. Just awful. I dreaded using the bathroom every time I had to, it was just so uncomfortable. Here’s my biggest issue with the room size though, this hotel isn’t in a good location either! I have, often even, sacrificed room size in a hotel to be in a great location, that’s almost expected in European capitals. But this hotel isn’t even in Copenhagen, it’s in Hellerup. Now is Hellerup a nice area? Absolutely, very quaint, but it isn’t central Copenhagen and as a tourist you’re going to be spending about 30 minutes transiting to places in the city from this hotel. It’s just crazy to me that this hotel, located in a suburb, charges as much as they do for rooms that are as small as they are. It’s just such a shame. Frankly if the rooms were even 100 square feet larger, this would have been a lovely and quaint stay in the suburbs of Copenhagen in rooms that were comfortable and LARGER than what you could get in the center of town. Regrettably, the food and service weren’t all that great either. Our booking included breakfast and the breakfast was very generous, you could basically get whatever you wanted, which was great! But the food was disappointing, I can’t really explain it, but nothing tasted good or even strongly of anything at breakfast. The sourdough bread, not sour. The whipped butter, not buttery. Even the eggs were bland. My husband thinks this was due to a lack of salt, which is definitely possible, but whatever the reason, the food was just so bland and unremarkable. Service was similar. There weren’t any service problems during our stay, but we also didn’t have any nice service moments. Despite eating at breakfast five mornings, we were never greeted by name or even greeted with a “welcome back.” This was particularly surprising since this is a SMALL luxury hotel, so it should have been fairly easy for the hostess at breakfast to remember our name after FIVE days. On a positive note, the AC in the hotel was great! It was able to get the room to a comfortable temperature without any issue. Overall, this hotel just wasn’t good. It’s beautiful, but it’s just so unremarkable and outright uncomfortable as a place to stay. I would not stay here again and I would not recommend it to others-especially for the price they charge.

We had a perfect stay at the Park Lane Hotel in Copenhagen. The location is excellent—situated in a quiet and relaxing neighbourhood, yet still well connected to the main areas of the city. The hotel itself is very clean, with great facilities and a comfortable, welcoming atmosphere. The staff were particularly attentive and kind—they upgraded us to a spacious room, which was ideal for our family of three, and even surprised me with a lovely delicatessen gift for my birthday. A very thoughtful touch that we really appreciated. The only reason I’m not giving a full score is the breakfast experience, which was quite disappointing. The service was very slow and seemed poorly coordinated—we had to wait around 40 minutes for just three small plates. The coffee was cold, and overall the price felt extremely high for the quality and experience provided. That said, we would still recommend the hotel and would happily stay again.
