Scandic Palace Hotel

I travel a lot. I get to see a lot of hotels, yet I haven’t experienced something quite like my one night stay. Check in took 35min because the desk was only staffed with one person. There was not a word of apologies or any attempt to mitigate. Unfortunately the room was dated, the wet corner was very small and worn out and lastly the room actually smelled unpleasantly for damp. Also the room was to the rear of the hotel just above the service entrance with deliveries and work commencing from about 6.00h. At checkout not even a single question about my stay. It might have been a Grand Hotel once, it isn’t anymore. I can’t recommend. Only reason for 2 stars is the breakfast - yet that is also again in a cramped space in the basement.

The location is perfect but all things are so old an d small room Staffs so helpfull Everyplace shopping and public transport so close

One persons attitude can change the entire guest experience. We stayed at the Scandic Palace from Thursday to Sunday. Great location, beautiful building. The walkways and rooms are very practical. Bathrooms are nice, beds are okay comfortable. We didn`t understand at check-in that we had to book the cleaning service via a QR code. A sustainability function which is great but it wasn`t communicated, so our room wasn´t cleaned until departure. That was ok for us but important to understand when going there. Breakfast is good with friendly people. The one experience that destroyed this stay was Christina at the reception desk on our departure day. We were two couples, two different booking and leaving 14:00 by cab. We asked for a late check-out and got confirmed that one hour would be free of charge. When we wanted to take that opportunity and Christina realized that we were two rooms she pulled the offer and wanted to give us one room. Still ok, until here. Could be misunderstood. But her argumentation was that they were too busy and didn`t have any other rooms available. She didn`t check the system and did not know that the other room was in a complete different category. Again - no systems checked. Her entire attitude changed and we could clearly see that this was not a real point, being made but her, having decided not wanting to help us. Two different bookings, one with a suite that had bought champagne and put in some money there. Her inability to deliver a kind service and just make an effort to see if it is possible is the disappointment. Honestly, this entire discussion at the reception kill it for us. Her cold neglection of service connected to obvious wrong stated facts was the problem. She then offered to prolong one room and not the other room, who initially started the conversation. Two different bookings. What a signal to me who started this conversation in the first place. All together it was visible that this was about her, not wanting to find a solution but just wanting to make a point and being right. Apart from this the atmosphere in the restaurant is very sweet. The man at the door in the evenings was very kind and sweet. All together a practical place to stay but it is impressive how such a situation on the last moment at the hotel can really leave a bad imprint on the entire stay.
