Excellent hotel in a nice area close to the city centre! Good service, nice and exclusively furnished rooms. Superb breakfast buffet!

Starting in Rovaniemi to see the midnight sun, then a rail journey to Oulu for a one night stop, we then took the 6 hour + rail journey to Helsinki. We wanted a hotel within walking distance of the railway station and the Hotel Helka got good reviews. It's about 20 minutes walk from the railway station and is well placed for shops and lovely park walks. The hotel room was spacious, we booked the comfort room, and we slept soundly with no noise. The breakfast was varied with lots of vegan choices, and there was also a section with gluten free foods. There was bar in the hotel and you can eat there although we went into the city for food. The staff were very helpful and the room was spotless. Note that this hotel is very eco conscious and there are no fridges in the room, but you can label food/drink and leave it in a fridge in the reception area. For a capital city hotel, we thought this hotel was good value for money and we really enjoyed our stay. Helsinki is a lovely city with a very interesting history. The Finnish people are lovely and very welcoming... We loved Finland and we'd like to go back in winter for a very different experience.... but well worth a visit in the summer too!

Hey everybody, this timer Helka was a disappointment. We stayed for 4 nights, 13-17.05.2026. Room was ok, lack of some furniture like a bigger living table, lack of some hangers in the bathroom, no place to hang clothes and more. But the biggest problem was the noise inside. Children running like crazy in all floors, making a lot of noise from morning till late night. Mothers were flattered because their children were creating a lot of mess. It was like a kindergarten. Not suitable for couples or solo travelers that need a calm time. Breakfast was ok.
