Le Grand Paris

On our motorcycle trip, we stayed one night at this hotel. An absolute gem! The owner, or employee (I unfortunately did not ask for her name) is extremely nice and very helpful. We parked our 4 mopeds in the garden and she helped us with the luggage. The apartments are old but very clean and large!! The lady served us breakfast on the terrace, it was very peaceful. Many thanks again to the lady, thanks to her the stay was very pleasant.

We arrived at this four star hotel and found it to be rather faded glory. When we checked in at 4pm we were upgraded to a suite, which was a good start. Although this was huge, it was rather old-fashioned and needed renovating. We then found that there was no hot water! At first the receptionist insisted we should let the water run, then said that in France you were not allowed to have the temperature any higher!! They were not particularly concerned and after dinner suggested we change room at 10.30. The next morning, we moved to another suite, which had been renovated and had a modern bathroom with hot water. The staff were all rather unhelpful and amateurish. The meal in the restaurant was very good, but expensive. At that price, we expected more friendly service, which we normally receive in France. We were hoping for a treat, but felt rather let down.

Despite the hotels and staffs best efforts the renovation affects your stay. Drilling, scaffolding surrounding the hotel and a mish mash of decor takes the joy out of this Parisian landmark. It will be 5 star again no doubt but not at the moment. Sauna broken, gym small and badly equipped, lounge area drab and crowded. I ask to check out as IHG member I would rather stay at the Crowne Plaza Nuielly (a real class act) and half the price. Not the staffs fault but avoid for now. Also I was offered nothing to change my mind.
