Le Chateau Fort

Mixed one-night stay. Pros: the central location, the architecture, the pleasant staff. On the other hand, if the 4 stars are awarded based on architecture, fine... but not based on services/equipment! Room without air conditioning (had to run a fan all night => noisy). Small TV. In a room costing €120 (excluding breakfast), no mini-fridge (the 2 bottles of water were lukewarm), the shower gel dispenser was filled with water and just a small bar of soap. The breakfast at €20 could use a bit more variety. In short, does not meet the standards of a 4-star hotel.

5 years ago I stayed overnight. Then a good experience. reason to book again. The 4 stars disappear immediately after we enter the room. Sweeping on the walls, painting done sloppily and out of order. Ragged. Limited number of outlets. By the bed on both sides, one, but you have to take the bedside table out of place. No air conditioning in the room (outside +30gr), but in public areas. Minibar has been taken away. Room is at most 3 stars. A remake of the room is not a luxury. The bar is not staffed. The receptionist has to keep an eye on that, but we just walk up to her to get a drink. Guests after us see them standing, but make them wait for minutes. The next day there is another one and he knows what service means. Breakfast the next morning is disappointing. We see a group of about 30-40 people leaving outside and they have plundered the breakfast buffet. Upon entering the restaurant you have to give your room number, but that becomes difficult when the only waitress is not in sight in fields or roads. Eventually I just sat down. The waitress has to do everything on her own. She can't do that. In the time we were there she cleared 2 tables. But topping up the cheese is not included. The orange juice (just like 4 years ago still not fresh) is almost gone. For people after us, a few bottles are put down. Hot water for tea has run out and is not being refilled either. And amazingly there are no croissants! NEVER experienced it in France. Ordinary (baguette) bread is also finished and, it becomes monotonous, is not refilled. And for that you have to tick off € 19 p.p. Dinner, on the other hand, is well catered for. beautiful flavors, bread is refilled if desired and the matching wines are fine. All in all, changing experiences. The 4 stars are not met and the price is disproportionate to the offered.

This 4-star hotel is located in part of the Château Fort Sedan. In such an ancient monument it is difficult to make a hotel, because there are many faits accomplis (read: walls, spaces etc) that you have to take into account. The standard rooms are not large, but fine. Bathroom with bath, shower in the bath. Separate toilet in the hallway. Beds of 2 meters length, unfortunately with (too) hard mattress. No air conditioning in the rooms and although the outside temperature in the days prior to our visit was about 22 degrees, it was quite warm in the room, despite the walls of 50 cm thickness and the small window. Checking in was a thing. We had received a gift voucher from the hotel itself from friends. I consider such a cheque as a means of payment for the reservation I had made on the hotel website. But I got my head kicked for that by the receptionist. I got an incoherent, incomprehensible account about not being allowed to book through the site (because now there would be 2 bookings...??), because they had to pay for that and I had to cancel my reservation. How was I supposed to tell you I wanted to book a room that night? Eventually it worked out and the receptionist would cancel the room for me (from which I received a confirmation email some time later). Later we sat on the terrace of the hotel drinking wine. When the glasses were empty I went in with them to get 2 new glasses. However, the receptionist was also a bartender and he said after a few minutes that he was busy and would not have time for my wine for the first 15 minutes. So I went back to the terrace, without wine. After about 10 minutes he still came to bring 2 glasses of wine. So everything worked out. In the evening we had a nice dinner in the restaurant in the hotel.
