Hotel Lutia

We stayed in Hotel Lutia for two nights to visit Marseille with my wife and son (1.5 years). We were very warmly welcome by the owner of the hotel, who gave us a lot of good tips what we should visit/where to eat, and did everything to make our stay as pleasent as possible. Rooms are really nice and very clean and functional. Will definitely come back to this hotel for our next visit to Marseille.

N43°17.041' E5°23.113' Hôtel Lutia is in a nice area with a street market in front, just of underground station Castellane, a short ride with Metro 1 or 2 from train station Gare St. Charles. From the old port, it takes a 15-minute walk. Our room number 5 in April 2015 on the second floor in the back of the hotel was basic, clean and well maintained. Including breakfast, we spent €80 per night. City centre hotels are much more expensive, but closer to the main attractions. Although in the back of the hotel, the open bedroom window lets in a lot of noise from the side street. The bathroom en suite is huge with a bath. You have to keep the shower in your hand, but it is excellent. No hairdryer available. The double bed with double size duvet/comforter slept very well. We did not use the third single bed in the room. Besides that, the room has a large fridge, television and a small table and chair. They cleaned the room every day. Wi-Fi reception is excellent on the first floor, but absent in our room on the second floor. Hôtel Lutia serves breakfast on the first floor with croissants, French bread, orange juice and coffee. Staff tries to speak English. They helped us in finding a lost item and advising us on city trips. Although Hôtel Lutia could also be B&B Lutia (what is the difference?). It offers a good night sleep in a basic and clean room with a good breakfast. Recommended.

The hallway is very tired but from first floor up it got better. The staff were very friendly and efficient. Yes, the bed was comfy and the linen crisp, but the room itself was very basic and tired. There was not even a bedside table or shelf. The tiled floor was definitely "tacky" underfoot - sorry but not one for bare feet! The en-suite was an excellent size but again, it was very basic. Free wifi was good. Having booked having looked at other reviews I was a little disappointed, but the location is good, with the metro and some excellent restaurants nearby.
