La Vieille Etable

Excellent welcome, Nathalie very kindly greets us with a smile A superb place, very quiet; we enjoyed the pool and the breakfast taken outside with a magnificent view of the park

Unfortunately it was raining like hell but checked in for the night , we drove from Calais, we had already booked on booking .com and we had our Jack Russell dog with us, the staff did not speak English , and the restuarant menu was a bit al a cart , we paid 60 pounds for room only and there was no water in the pool, but the room was lovely. Small village near by , but only reachable if you have a car.

We have stayed here several times in the past. We were travelling from Capbreton up to Northern France so once again decided to make an overnight stop half way. On arrival, I had to hunt for someone to check us in and when they did arrive at the desk, the young lady was non too friendly. Our chalet style rooms were situated at the back of the hotel and were clean and comfortable. We ate dinner in the restaurant and the meal was very good but we made the mistake of ordering two main courses each! We hadn’t realised this at the time! We thought we had ordered a fish starter! Our mistake! The service was sullen, unhelpful and decidedly ordinary. The next morning breakfast was served in a different room and consisted of a self service buffet. There was no one around to ask for help. We tried to make boiled eggs, but when we took them out of the machine they were still raw! No where did it explain that the machine had to be switched on first. In any other hotel we have stayed at, the egg boiler is always on and hot so eggs don’t take too long to cook. Another guest showed us how to use the fruit squeezer which again was switched off! A sullen looking young waiter came in to clear a table but ignored us completely, he didn’t ask if we were ok or whether we had what we needed. Because we didn’t want espresso coffee from the machine I had to go and hunt another member of staff to order a jug of coffee. The response was almost as if we were being a nuisance. When we were ready to check out, the hunt to find a member of staff began again! In fact we could have left without paying and to be frank it would have served them right!! I did eventually find someone to deal with us. We decided there and then that that would be our last visit to Vielle Etable. A shame because in the past it had been such a treat. The staff, the service and the “welcome” (not!) was poor at best.
