La Villa Romaine

We appreciated the soothing beauty of the place as well as the attentive and discreet service

La Villa Romaine is close to the Dordogne River and next to the beautiful Water Gardens. It is in a fairly isolated location outside the larger towns, but I actually liked the setting, and it made an excellent base for sightseeing around the Dordogne. We received a warm welcome from a very pleasant woman who showed us to our room. The room was comfortable and well appointed, with air conditioning in the main bedroom, although not in the bathroom. Breakfast was good, as was dinner, which needed to be booked that morning. The old buildings have plenty of character, but some areas did not appear particularly well maintained. We were told there had recently been a storm, but broken pots had been left around the pond, making the grounds look rather neglected. Near our room, a lounge area was being used to store vacuum cleaners, bed linen and other supplies. It looked more like a storeroom and was not something guests should have to see. Another annoyance was the number of wasps outside. The hotel staff did not seem particularly interested in allowing or encouraging us to eat indoors. Overall, we had a good stay and enjoyed the location, but better attention to maintenance, storage and guest comfort would improve the experience considerably.

Wonderful experience!! The staff is very friendly and helpful. From our first dinner we noticed that the cuisine is very tasty and refined. We are very satisfied with our stay and would love to come back again.
