We spent one night in this 4-star hotel on July 24, 2026. It was a gift through a 299 euro wonderbox. One night in a suite, spa access, and two breakfasts. To be precise and factual, my comment only concerns the "Lascaux" suite because I do not know the other rooms / suites. The Lascaux suite is a suite in name only (and size, because there are two rooms). This place is not air-conditioned. There is a comment on a document in the room: the castle has 15.75-inch walls and air conditioning is not necessary, with a little "ecological" comment!!! It turns out that the "Lascaux suite" is located under the roof! When you look at the overall decor (wallpaper, bathroom), you can easily see that the last renovation of this place dates back a number of years (at least the 90s or even the 80s). The roof insulation is not up to par. They graciously grant you a fan! Nevertheless, a dreadful night (95 degrees in Perigueux that day) As I specified that I am remaining factual, I will not make any comments and will let you be the judge regarding the balance between ecological and economic choices for the lack of air conditioning... Beyond this lack of air conditioning, here are other essential elements for understanding this review: Poor quality bedding (you can feel the mattress springs) The carpet is stained A sofa is torn The wallpaper is peeling, torn in places No TV in the living room A TV in the room, but so far from the bed and so small that it is not possible to enjoy it from the bed. Some tiles on the bathtub apron are broken (a bathtub and no shower). For a suite, the toilet is in the bathroom (not a big deal in itself, but not consistent with a "suite"). To make you smile, there is a bidet in the bathroom. It is not bothersome, just to let you imagine the date of the last renovation (the style of the tiles also betrays this age...). For the rest: The spa is more modern than the castle. Decent spa, very classic. Quality breakfast. And finally, the staff is very professional and friendly. Sometimes very embarrassed when we explained the situation to them very calmly (they are not to blame for anything!). We stopped when we felt they were very embarrassed, as the goal was not to put them in a difficult position between dissatisfied customers and their management. I should specify that there is also a restaurant in this hotel. Without knowing it, we canceled our reservation after discovering the "suite." In summary, a bed and breakfast in this condition, found at the last minute and for 50 or 60 euros, no problem. But very far from being acceptable for a night at 300 euros in a suite at a 4-star hotel. It is not worthy of the image of French hospitality. A small, important clarification: it is absolutely not Wonderbox that is being targeted in this review (because we were the ones who chose the location), but rather the hotel in question. We simply informed Wonderbox of the situation.

It is a pretty place. Very renowned. About 170 euros. Stay in the annex. Temperature 42 degrees outside for a month in the Dordogne. The host speaks very loudly and first gives you all your obligations and warnings as soon as you arrive. The gentleman is scary. You think you are sleeping in a castle. In fact, you are sleeping in a 10m room under the eaves, in an annex, with shutters that do not work and curtains that are held up by a thread and their spiderwebs. A fan that can barely stand up. Room temperature 35. When we reported the problems, the response: I know, ma'am, every day I have complaints like yours. Their defense is systematically: it was indicated on the site!! It was Sunday and no room to eat in the restaurant. There is nowhere to eat around the location. We didn't eat. In short, the guests are there to keep the castle and its maintenance alive.

Does not deserve 4 stars for the rooms; there is no air conditioning, and with 40 degrees outside, it is impossible to open the windows, otherwise the mosquitoes attack us. Also, please inform the staff who clean the rooms to check carefully for any presence of spiders; there are four of us after all. The sauna is quite pleasant. The restaurant area could also benefit from fresh air; only the breakfast room is air-conditioned. However, the breakfast is excellent. The staff is very pleasant in all areas and admits that the heat in the rooms is not enjoyable. Please do something quickly; otherwise, customers will stop coming. It's a shame because the place is very beautiful and deserves to be known, but I am convinced that you will find a solution as the years become increasingly hot.
