Manoir Petit Meysset

We traveled with two kids (age 5 and 8) and we loved this place. Super charming building, homey and cosy with everything you need. The room was bigger than imagined and the sleeping arrangements were very comfortable. The staff was always available to answer any question we had and to suggest things to do in the area. We ended up having an active 4 days in the area; canoeing, climbing, biking and much more. Make sure to take a night in Sarlat just 15/20 minutes walk from this place. The walking street comes alive at night with street performers and local stuff to buy. We will highly recommend Manoir Petit to anyone looking for a great location in a beautiful area with lots to do, and for people wanting a homey high end bed and breakfast (and please try the breakfast - amazing).

Well, what can we say except wow and when can we come back? We stayed for five nights and wish it could be more! We feel so happy to have been able to stay at Le Manoir and especially at the start of a new season. Everything was just gorgeous. Please ignore the previous poor reviews, they’re not from the current owner’s tenure. It’s a warm and welcoming atmosphere in a beautiful part of the world. Julia (the owner) has done up the place beautifully and it’s a perfect mix of pretty, cosy and tidy. We stayed in three of the rooms during our holiday, because we kept adding extra days to our itinerary, so can confirm they’re all clean and functional, as well as attractive, warm and comfortable. We will mention the bigger things in a bit, but it is the small things that make a difference. Fluffy towels, tea and coffee making facilities, an amazing array of books, plenty of brochures and even a good selection of DVDs await. The beds are comfy, it is clean and warm. There are rooms to suit everyone and indeed while we were there, a family of five were staying. We hardly heard them! The internet is fast should you need it ... but why would you want to waste time online! There’s too much to enjoy offline instead. It’s about 15-20 minutes walk to Sarlat which is great if you don’t mind a bit of a walk. We loved it. Perhaps if you’re not so keen on a walk, driving or biking into Sarlat would be a good option. We tried to get a cab or an Uber one night but had no luck, so don’t depend on a ride being available in town. There’s plenty to do in the pretty medieval French town, and so much to see around the Perigord Noir. In just a few days we checked out Lascaux Centre, Castelnaud-la-Chapelle, canoed the Dordogne, visited the Gouffres de Padirac and even drove to Arcachon for a day. Sarlat is a great base but honestly if you wanted to stay at the Manoir and be housebound, you’d be happy. An afternoon drink on the terrace ... reading in the sunshine ... walks around the woody Rue de Meysset. Just lovely. The icing on the cake for us was the Manoir’s staff, Sarah and Marina, who are an absolute credit to the establishment. They were so friendly, very knowledgeable, helpful and make a delicious continental breakfast. Really made the special. Well Manoir, we’d give you six out of five stars if we could!

We knew we were going to enjoy our stay when after a warm welcome we were offered a carafe of rose wine to enjoy on the sunny terrace at the back of the house. Comfortable bed in an elegant room which, although the house is not far from the main road into Sarlat, was very quiet. We were perhaps lucky that we had the house to ourselves but there is plenty of room outside to sit and enjoy the garden ( the grass at the back of the house was covered in orchids!). The house is a good 15-20min walk from old Sarlat although there is a reasonable bistro (Le Octroi) about 10 minues away. If you do walk down at night take a torch as some of the road is unlit. Our only regret ... not being able to stay longer.
