Was I dreaming, or was it real?
We stayed at Airelles Gordes, and I truly cannot recommend it highly enough.
The property is impeccably maintained. Despite being a historic building with so much character and history, everything feels fresh, spotless, and perfectly cared for. We were told that the hotel closes every winter to carry out extensive maintenance, and it really shows. Every detail is immaculate.
One of my favorite touches was the thoughtful gifts throughout the stay. It starts with matching pajamas for you and your partner, followed by several other little surprises. These small gestures made the experience feel extra special.
And yes, the minibar is completely complimentary. Not only that, but it’s stocked with amazing candies, chocolates, and premium snacks. Whatever you might crave, it’s probably there. I also loved that many of the drinks by the pool are complimentary. At some luxury hotels, you don’t even get free water by the pool. At Airelles, you pay a premium, but you genuinely receive a premium experience in return.
We did experience an issue with the hot water supply in our room, but the way the hotel handled it was exceptional. I spoke with the General Manager, and after staying at many ultra-luxury hotels around the world, I can honestly say he is made for this role. He was courteous, kind, professional, and resolved everything in the best possible way. Airelles should be grateful to have a GM of this caliber running their Gordes property.
We also had dinner at Beefbar, which had only recently opened. As expected, there were a few teething issues, but the staff were incredibly kind and accommodating. Combined with the spectacular views, I’m confident it will become an outstanding dining destination.
Because of the water issue, the hotel kindly moved us to a Valley View room for one night. Honestly was I dreaming? I have never seen a view quite like it. It was the most beautiful view I have ever experienced. If your budget allows, I strongly recommend booking a Valley View room. The difference between the valley and village views is absolutely night and day.
Breakfast was extensive, with virtually anything you could wish for available. Service was occasionally a little clumsy, but once again, the view completely makes up for it.
This hotel holds the prestigious “Palace” distinction in France (one of the highest honors a hotel can receive) and I couldn’t agree more with that recognition. In fact, I would rank it above several Palace hotels I’ve stayed at in Paris.
I also can’t stop talking about the views of both the property and Gordes itself. It’s not Gordes—it’s GORGEOUS.
The only minor criticism I have is that some members of the reception and concierge team could occasionally come across as a little cold. For example, after the concierge recommended a new restaurant, we stopped by to look at the menu, but it was still closed. When we later asked him to make a reservation for us, he seemed surprised that we hadn’t done so ourselves. It felt a little awkward, but more like clumsiness than rudeness.
I could go on and on, but it would almost sound exaggerated. The truth is that I was completely in awe of this property.
Even upon departure, the experience continued. We were given a thoughtful goodie bag containing Ladurée macarons, water, and other small gifts. Airelles truly thinks of everything, from the moment you arrive until the moment you leave.
I’ve never stayed at a hotel that anticipates guests’ needs so completely from start to finish.
Trust me: book this hotel with your eyes closed. You won’t be disappointed.
