Le Chateau d Etoges

What a great place in the middle of the champagne region. About half an hour from Épernay and an hour from Reims, well-kept chateau. We traveled with one of our children a booked a family room Champete, lovely space with 2 good bedrooms, nursery slightly smaller but still good size. Beautiful, renovated bathroom with separate shower and bathtub. Breakfast is delicious but on the expensive side. The restaurant was closed but we ate in the bistro of the hotel which was also good and had a very relaxed atmosphere. All staff super friendly. Overall lovely place for a weekend away or on the way back to the Netherlands.

The castle is beautiful and is wonderfully situated. That's why I was immediately enthusiastic and booked two rooms for us. Six weeks before the stay, I received a message from the hotel via WhatsApp, which asked me to pay the full price. This message was perfectly forged, as I found out after some laborious contact with the hotel. Four weeks later, the hotel then debited the entire amount (which they are allowed to do) without, however, giving me any information about it. I saw it by chance on the card statement and was worried because of the first incident. Contact was extremely difficult again, but in the end I was relieved to know that everything was in order. One week before the stay, I received another perfectly forged email from the hotel, which again asked me to pay. There is little awareness of these problems at the hotel. I did not receive an apology either. Not a good start. I had booked two rooms. The double room in the castle was a tiny broom closet, whose windows ended at about 1.5 meters. The other room was located in the orangery. The latter was totally fine, but nothing special. When checking out, the bill was too high because there were items on it that did not belong to me. Overall, the price-performance ratio is not right at all, downright annoying. The staff is very nice and it is a really beautiful place. I would wish for professional management. Until then, we would rather go somewhere else.

Despite early departure due to an unacceptable room and no solution, charged in full!!! For the price of the rooms, an absolute disgrace. Room under the roof with small windows at a height of 1.80m, so that you could only see the sky. 40 degrees in the room and an incredibly loud portable air conditioner that made it impossible to sleep. The second classic double room was not in the castle as stated, but in an annex, so we always had to walk across the courtyard for breakfast. In addition, the room was only accessible via a very steep and narrow staircase, which is impossible for people with limitations to access. It also did not correspond in any way to the pictures on the website and on Booking. Even though we stated 6 months in advance that there were 2 vegetarians and 2 vegans in our group, this was not addressed in any way. At dinner, the two vegans were served dry rice without sauce with french fries. The hotel was not willing to find a solution to the problems. Due to the room and dining situation, 2 guests departed after 2 days. The hotel was subsequently unwilling to refund the 2 days and charged for them in full. The hotel management was not interested in any solution. The hotel tried to charge for breakfast that had already been paid for.
