We were at the Mercure Courbevoie/La Defense during the heatwave with temperatures up to 42°C. The reception was good, the staff were nice, attentive, and competent. We received a "Privilege Room" and looked forward to a well-air-conditioned stay in a "spacious" and pleasant room on the upper floors. We took the elevator up and stood in front of the room door, opened it, and found ourselves in a "relatively small," rather compact space. The air conditioning was running at full power, yet it remained warm. The hotel air conditioning was likely designed during the time of construction and was set for temperatures of 30-35°C; it would have cooled down to 25-27°C if it had been running in all rooms simultaneously. However, we have had summers in the greater Paris area with higher temperatures (currently up to 42°C) for several years now. Even at night, the temperature outside did not drop below 18/29°C. Since the air conditioning was undersized and not designed for such temperatures (which have indeed occurred in recent years and will accompany us in the future), the maximum cooling capacity was distributed evenly across all rooms and hotel spaces. Although it was cooled with maximum capacity, the rooms remained warm (28/29°C), stuffy, and also humid. It was indeed cooled with maximum capacity, but the rooms stayed warm (28/29°C), stuffy, and also humid. Even at night, it was "excruciatingly" warm, and my wife and I were lying in our own sweat. That was really uncomfortable, and for a 4-star hotel, it was inadequate. Now about the room itself. It was "small" for a "Privilege Room" - even for a standard room, it would have been "small." There was about a 49cm narrow passage between the bed and the left side of the room (with the window) - there was no more space. The carpet was dirty and partially stuck with some substance (on the carpet surface). The wardrobe had no volume for clothing for 3 days - nothing fit inside, not even my wife's 3 dresses (size: 1.75m) could be hung up, as the clothes rod only held clothing up to 50cm in length; my dress shirts barely fit in length, and I had to fold my suit pants three times. This is unacceptable for a "Privilege Room" in a 4-star hotel. I took photos of the passage by the bed and the condition of the carpet and have attached them here. The rooms themselves and facilities from the looks of it looked exactly as you would expect, however the customer service (from the night staff) is abysmal and our experience with the room was awful. The first night we were given a king size bed inside of 2 single beds and so we came back down to reception from the room to ask if we could have another room, they said the hotel was full. We asked kindly enough however the reaction we got from one of the receptionists was a scoff and he huffed and puffed when asked a simple question. The next morning we were moved to another room with 2 single beds. However in this room the electricity would keep cutting off and I got blamed for it because of my adapter however the electricity repeatedly cut off when my adapter was not plugged in. The technician came into our rooms multiple times to fix the electric in the middle of the night because without aircon in a heatwave it would’ve been extremely hot and both the receptionist and technician said I was to blame for the electric cutting out. The receptionist was on the phone with me at the time and I asked for another room and was told the hotel was full which honestly I don’t believe for a second, and then when I asked what do you suggest we do he said “good bye” and put the phone down on me. Absolutely horrible customer service, the rooms aren’t even wired properly. Don’t waste your money here, there are plenty of other hotels within the la defense area
