Hotel Kandahar

Very nice alpine hotel located right in the heart of Val d'isere. Location is key. Bedroom was spacious, bathroom was great with a good powerful shower. Excellent locker room for ski equipment, boots etc located right across from the front door. Hotel is clean and bedrooms are serviced daily. We didn't have dinner in the hotel but breakfast was nice. Bar service in the evenings was very attentive and friendly. We only used the Spa facilities once and they are as described. Once small suggestion of some water in the Spa area would of been a nice touch. Overall a really enjoyable experience.

Located centrally in the main thoroughfare of Val D'Isere on the red route free shuttle all starting points can be reached without the minimum of walking. Take the northbound route to Rond Point for Solaise or Olympic, or further to be dropped off at Laisinant or Le Fornet. South takes you to La Daille for the Funival or the Gondola. There is always a smiling face at the reception where staff are most helpful, the heated ski lockers are the best I have encountered ensuring cosy boots gloves and helmet each morning. I visited alone and my room was warm and comfortable with little to no noise from the street. Plentiful hot water and daily cleaning may seem the norm but surprising how some places fall over on this, but not here. The room had a flat screen tv for evenings with Netflix and the free WiFi seldom let me down. I took a travel kettle but found that kettles were available on request. I booked half board with a travel company (rhymes with Bingham's) who took my booking. but when documents arrived informed me that half board was not available which I accepted since it was Christmas week. To my surprise and joy reception enquired of me on day two as to why I had not been down for dinner assuring me that my booking was for half board, bonus points awarded to Kandahar, points deducted (B)Inghams, this might go some way to explaining why I was the only person travelling to Val D'Isere that week with them. The half board fayre in the restaurant was again excellent with three course dinner each night showcasing local delicacies in a busy and ambient room with very attentive staff. The hotel has a sauna which I did not use, but is a short walk to the Val D'Isere sports centre which has sauna, stream rooms, pool and gym. I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone.

Nice hotel in a great location. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Nice breakfast in the restaurant and lounge. The restaurant wall-to-wall has the same owner and is very good. The restaurant was not the most exclusive in the village but the one we thought was the best.
