Basic but OK room. Good location. Tight carpark at the back, especially if other customers take more space than required. May as well book via Booking.com as no other rate would be agreed at the hotel despite the Booking fees. Ok for a stop over.

My wife were visiting the area for weekend to watch Leicester v Toulon in the Heineken Cup (We classified it as a "couples" trip but, unless you are passionate about rugby union, it could not be considered a romantic weekend!). We flew into Marseille and hired a rental car and so needed a hotel near Toulon with parking. There are very few hotels in Toulon with parking and we decided that The Blue Hotel was close enough. It actually proved to be further than we realised (about 4 kilometres). Taxi fares between the hotel and Toulon varied from twenty five to thirty four Euros each way. There is a daytime bus from outside the hotel that costs 2.80 Euros, which we thought was good value. There is also a water taxi from La Seyne Sur Mer harbour.
The hotel room itself (a double room) was quite small although that didn't pose a problem. The en suite was barely large enough. I had to shoehorn myself into the space to use the toilet. The shower cubicle (with hand shower) was the largest area in the en suite. The bed was comfortable. It was a quiet room - we were not disturbed at all - and it was clean.
The sign in reception says "We speak English". Technically speaking they do. However, I learned more French at school for my CSE exam than they learned English! We got by. Often by asking them to write down the information. That said, the staff were friendly and tried to be helpful.
We did not eat at the hotel. We had previously seen a review about the breakfast and, seeing that the charge was just 7 Euros, decided it wouldn't be much and gave it a miss. There is a more than adequate boulangerie a hundred yards down the road which provided for our breakfast needs.
Overall the cost of the room was good value. We booked through an internet site but they charged us less than was quoted. We were just looking for a room where we could go to sleep at the end of the day and, from that point of view, it served its purpose. Had we wanted a room in London for a romantic weekend we would have wanted something much more special.
We would go back and be better informed next time about the travel arrangements we would need to make to get into Toulon more economically.
