Hotel Gerard d'Alsace

It is a simple 3 star hotel with many advantages. Parking in the yard or garage in the building. To the lake no 10 minutes equally to the center of Geradmer. The breakfast is sufficient, the rooms are perfectly OK for a short break.

Booked a room by phone Friday evening, for the following Saturday night, giving credit card no. and expiry date. Couldn't make it in time due to car break down, tried to cancel room by phone at 4pm the Saturday but they HAD ALREADY CHARGED MY CREDIT CARD even before planned arrival! Indeed it was late for cancellation but it was high season and rooms very hard to find esp. in weekend so there was hope they could still sell it. Went there Sunday morning to ask if they had managed to sell the room to someone else but they hadn't. Fair enough to pay them some compensation, but they charged me the FULL FEE of EUR 135 even if they had had no work on the room at all. Unhelpful and unsympathetic.

Hotel is kind of neglected. Smelling old inside. Room and furniture are extremely basic. No lift. Swimming pool on the pictures is not working. Free parking. Nearly 15 min walk to the lake side. We refused from the breakfast.
