Marriott Heidelberg

A really good large breakfast buffet, a spacious outdoor terrace, and a very good kitchen that prepares everything fresh. Competent staff, both in service and at the reception, who genuinely want to help and make almost everything possible. I look forward to the next time.

Sadly this is a very dated hotel, AC barely works, mattress and bedding are uncomfortable, no coffee in the rooms, room smells of yesteryear, room service dinner was delivered 1 hour and 45 minutes later, hotel is in so so location with nothing worthwhile in walkable distance, do yourself a favour and avoid

I wanted to love this hotel, but couldn't get passed the obvious aging and lack of refurbishing/repair. The sink had cracks in it (see previous review photos) and the sliding closet doors were not really functional. There was a fridge, but no in-room safe. The location of this hotel is not far from the train station, and has a wonderful pizza shop & gas station within walking distance (Nispet Pizza and Shell Station). If you are able to get a room facing the river, it might be cooler with your curtains closed all day. The other side faces the morning sun and it gets very warm in the room. (In fact, the air conditioning upon arrival was blowing air, and was not very cooling.) The thermostat in the room had no effect on the cooling as it was centrally controlled. We were able to obtain a fan for our comfort. We were told the AC was not working because the electricity had gone out, and the following day guests had no hot water for showers. The saving grace was the very nicely temped pool that we were able to get some laps in, and cool off, and the service at breakfast was good. The products in the bathroom are It Works brand and I opted to ask for bar soap that was less fragrant/offensive. They were able to accommodate that request. We did not request service during our short stay. Pass on the in-room instant coffee, as well as the coffee outside of the breakfast area. (Use the machines in the restaurant) If given the opportunity to stay in Heidelberg again, we would not choose this hotel and stay closer to old town.
