To make it short: I quite liked the hotel for being a but oldstyle, with some personality. Of course it looks a bit dated, but hey, the rooms are quite generous, the beds not minuscule and it has some film noir qualities you definitively miss in "cheaper" hotel chains. The breakfast, not being galactic still was more than decent. Considering the price it's a good deal. Add to it that it's almost in the centre. I'd book it again, definitively.

I stayed 5 nights at this hotel during a business trip. Wireless internet is free and signal is very good. Breakfast was included in the price and was quite decent. I was in room 309 which is away from the street and was very quiet. I was initially given a single room that was very small at the end of the hallway, and they accommodated my request for a bigger room that has two single beds (at no additional charge). The room is clean, small compare to most hotels in U.S. The room is not ventilated when window is closed at night (as no screen on the window). I used the provided fan whenever I was in the room, that was sufficient as it the temperature was around 25-28C during my stay. Hallway lights were sound controlled and there are also switches outside of each room. You will need to turn on the hallway light each time you go out of the room to light up. This is quite unusual. Lift is very small and stops between two floors - you will need to walk down or up several stairs to reach you floor. There are 2 bottled water provided in the room each day that were complimentary. As I found the taste of the tap water was better than the bottled water, so I drunk just tap water during my stay - when I needed. The hotel staff also provided me with a hot water pot to boil the water when I requested, that was very nice. Location is good - easy walk to restaurants and shops and the university (KIT) campus south where I needed to go everyday while in Karlsruhe. Bus to and from the train station (Bus #10) stops almost across the street (Kriegsstasse - using the construction cross walkway) from the hotel (stop is "Ettlinger Tor"), cost 2.30 euro one way - ticket can be bought from the driver on the bus (needs to be stamped by the machine on the bus). At train station you may find the bus #10 stop on the right hand side if the station is at your back - you need to walk across the tram rails to get there (in front of the zoo). All in all, it was a great experience staying in Arthotel Royal and exploring Karlsruhe. Will recommend this hotel to friends.

I was in Arthotel last April. The hotel was at a good condition and the room/bathroom clean. Not very comfortable the elevator installation as it stops in a level "between" of floors..Decent breakfast and a very gentle and kind owner. Good for business, not recommended for families. Oh!and wonderful decoration with art items.
