The hotel as such is very difficult for me to rate - because it is so ambivalent in so many things. The main building is super, right on Lake Titisee, traditionally yet modernly furnished, great restaurant, very nice rooms (we looked at the no.) - here in terms of hardware without hesitation definitely 4*. Unfortunately, we were accommodated in a studio, 300m away from the main building, up the hill - we knew that and it was not an issue for us (at first). BUT: Unfortunately, the studios are not even half as nicely or high-quality furnished as the main building rooms. Cheapest furniture from a discount furniture store (bed, wardrobe, dresser), at best to be described as functional - like any random 3* vacation apartment in any random town in the Black Forest. We had a maisonette studio (yes, that was a customer request, but what I didn't know was that the bedroom went DOWN and not up, i.e., the bathroom and bedroom were effectively underground, and since the window was completely overgrown with ivy, you felt like you were in an earth bunker - not everyone's thing). But my mistake: Specified the wrong customer request. Nevertheless, they could have kept the window and the area in front of the window a bit clearer of plants so that it wouldn't feel so cramped. The bathroom was very small and definitely does NOT meet the 4* standard of the main building. It is difficult to sell the main building and the studios under one name and as one product with 4*. The studios are 3*. Now for the food: The menu sounded very good every time. But the taste was very inconsistent. The food was always missing that final touch of flavor - there was no aroma at all. Even when it said "with sherry sauce" - no taste of sherry - or with red pepper: The taste of it was completely missing. There were also major quality differences with the scrambled eggs in the morning. The scrambled eggs were ordered à la carte. On the first day, a nice large portion of well-seasoned scrambled eggs, sprinkled with crispy bacon bits - absolutely delicious and top-notch. The other 4 days (also ordered scrambled eggs with bacon), there were lackluster scrambled eggs without salt, bacon bits were stirred in (soft and soggy instead of crispy as a result), and the portions got smaller per person from day to day. Now for the staff: also very ambivalent here. Owner super nice and a real host, knew how to sell (in a positive sense!), made small talk with guests, and was always approachable. Also, especially in service and at the reception. Otherwise, the waiters were: well, ambivalent. They brought the food to the table and wished us a good appetite - but any advice on wine or something like that - no chance. The money the hotel is missing out on through "upselling"... Breakfast staff: 2 very nice, friendly ladies (one older and one younger blonde), that was nice in the morning. But then there was other staff, where you felt like it was a nuisance that you as a guest were coming to breakfast. The hotel has a very nice terrace on the side of the hotel and down by the lake. It was September, it was warm. Think of the drinks the hotel could have sold if the staff (who were there!) had actually asked if or what one would like to drink. I am sure that if the lounge and terrace downstairs had been actively serviced from 3 p.m. on, the hotel could have increased its beverage revenue quite a bit. On the last day, I had to proactively go into the restaurant to order wine and cake... Is that how it should be? As a guest, you don't really feel comfortable doing that (especially since you are paying for the drinks, it's not on the house). We probably wouldn't have rated the hotel quite as critically if we hadn't previously spent a few days at another boutique hotel in a nearby town (Saig) that is listed as a 3* hotel, but beats this official 4* hotel by a long shot in all respects (especially service and food quality)... But still: We would come back - but this time definitely book the main building. That is also a tip for other guests: Do not book studios unless circumstances require it (children, dog, etc.)

Perfect location for those who appreciate the beauty of nature and easy access to hiking and water activities. Clean, well-maintained hotel, staffed by professionals who know how to make guests feel welcome and have a comfortable and pleasant stay. Excellent breakfast, dinner menu is superb. This was the 3rd time we've stayed here, and every visit has been perfect. Highly recommend to those who set high standards.

We had a wonderful stay at the Alemannenhof. The location is very nice and our studio had a perfect view of the lake. A little paradise with a great restaurant.
