The hotel is located in a distinctly seedy area with gambling casino's, strip clubs and sex shops. On the plus side there is a profusion of cheap ethnic restaurants if that's your thing, and it's beside the Hauptbahnhof. The hotel itself is old fashioned and is decorated in 70's style, although very clean well maintained and not worn around the edges. On entering the first thing that meets you in reception is an empty registration desk with two chairs which appears to be a permanent fixture. I had expected to see a walk through metal detector which thankfully was absent. It is not a welcoming entrance to a hotel. The rooms are large, clean and functional, basic toiletries are provided with no separate shampoo or conditioner just a generic washing gel. On our first day the breakfast was in a purpose built dining room, the 70's decor with mirrored ceilings and bright lights is somewhat jarring but there's nothing they can do about that. The buffet was chaotic in it's layout and the food itself was generally unappetising and of cheap and basic quality, if not exactly enjoyable it "filled a hole". On the second morning the breakfast layout was shocking and nothing short of an affront to ones dignity. The buffet was moved to a massive ballroom with scores of tables laid in rows, each one with four chairs. The tables were bare except for the piles of used cups plates etc. which had not been cleared from previous diners. One was expected to find ones own utensils, and to clear and occupy a space at a table. The food was spread out in a linear fashion over about thirty metres along one side of the room. The entire set-up was reminiscent of a military canteen during a large scale operation, without the discipline., a scenario I am acquainted with. Apart from the person checking room numbers there were no staff present. I had a glass of water and left. We are very seasoned travellers and have stayed in every category of hotel all over the world, however I have never seen anything as bad in a hotel calling itself four star located in a major city. We paid €408 for two nights which is not exactly at the budget end of the market. The premises has a small swimming pool and if you need this, go ahead, but otherwise have a good look around, there are plenty of hotels in Munich. We will not be returning to the Maritim.

This hotel is well placed, being in downtown Munich, a stone's throw from Central Station and despite its central location, it is relatively quiet. The room (with separate bathroom) that my brother and I had, was adequately furnished, the beds were comfortable enough, though the pillows were a negative point...rather uncomfortable. Overall the room was good value for money. Breakfast was great...great choice and overall excellent service in the breakfast dining area. The Piano Bar was, however, rather unattractive and pretty mundane...we only went there once and that was enough! So, all in all, we can recommend this hotel for a stay in the wonderful Bavarian capital. And despite some other visitor comments regarding the location of this hotel, it is not an unsafe, seedy part of Munich...at no time, day or night, did we feel uneasy

Located almost across the street from the Munich Center train station. Take the right lateral exit and you'll see Goethe St. in front of you; the hotel is just a few steps from the corner. A bit of a shady hood. Took Lufthansa bus from the airport - although the price is the same as the train and drops you off at the train station, the journey is longer, even though there was little traffic on a Sunday pm. Not worth it; take the train (43 min trip). Hotel was clean and quiet. Staff were overall friendly. Room was ok in size, small bath. We asked for two single beds and they gave it to us - literally glued to each other; no space in between so no privacy. Bed was comfortable; AC worked ok, free wifi in the room was fine. Shower was good but toiletries were poor. Safe and minibar in room. TV had mostly German channels with a few international additions. Did not try restaurant nor the pool. All in all, simple stay for just a few days. Nothing special about the place. Center is about a 20 min walk.
