Haus Hohenzollern Hotel-Garni

This is a very special place, like I understood from my experience and from reviews of others. You have to be attentive to the details. Like here: Booking.com says “It offers a sun terrace and free parking.” Formally it is not true, there is no free parking which belongs to the hotel. But, let’s say, there is not too much problem to find a free place for your car in the next street (45 seconds walking). Booking.com says “Check-in: 14:00 - 18:00”. You would not believe, but it is very strict. You will face the locked door and the dark reception. You can use the phone number which is written on the door and call for help. Most probably within one hour you will get the key and judgment about your mental abilities. This costs only 20 euros. Do not be surprised. There is a solution: you just order the late check-in if you confirm that you are gonna pay this additional fee. Just be careful. I have got a mail from the hotel but did not react on it, because I’m normally getting a bunch of mails from booking.com after any reservation. That was my mistake. Actually, there are some comments that the owner, the woman you meet on the reception, is rude. This is not true at all. She is just deadly honest. You don’t meet this in the usual western life. I can recommend you just to be honest and open in response. Yes, this is a kind of place where the rule that “customer is always right” doesn’t work. At least it is fair. In general it is a very nice, fairytale-like hotel, with old wooden creaking floor, authentic furniture and small rooms. No hairdryer was found. By the way, if being in the room drives you to suicidal thoughts, like some people wrote in the comments, go down to the “lounge”. It is cozy, has a mini-bar and a bigger TV. Well, this is really the center of the village. Tens of restaurants are in 5 minutes walking distance. I have to say that the hotel did not meet my expectation due to a wrong expectation. But I have really enjoyed my stay in it.

Unbelievable ! Especially check-in the Haus besitzerin isch e witz! and very very rude (she didnt know i spoke Perfekt Deutsch !) but its a long time ago and although the location is brilliant we left after being bullied by her and stayed at the Edelweis;

We booked this hotel on the basis that we would just sleep and travel into the city. We were not looking at all for anything nice. So the wooden furiture were fine and all the amenities functioned. The reason why I gave this low rating is that it seemed we were taken advantage of. First, I read online that check-in specifically ends at 6pm. From reading online, which states this was very strict, but if you inform before of your late arrival everything would be fine. I contacted and stated we will be arriving at 7pm. She said that is fine, but give more or less 15 minute notice. Which I gave more than 1 hour notice. We arrived at 7pm, and noone is there, and we waited outside the front door. I contacted again, and the owner said she was there at 7pm, which if that is true, it would mean that she refused to open the door for us. Advantageous for them because it would be we would receive a 'late charge'. She contacted me saying a man would come with the keys, and if we want to enter our rooms we would have to pay this 'fee' of 20 euros per room and a 'special' tax of 15euro per room, but only in CASH! The man showed up after an 1 hour and 30 mins of waiting. 15 minute notice made absolutely no sense. He gave the keys and took the money in cash, lucky we had that amount of cash on us. (70 euros). I felt robbed. One room was perfect, but we requested 3 beds in one room, and there were only two beds. First night, one of us slept on the hardwood floors. (No one at the haus to report this mix up to). In the morning, we had to give all of our passports to the reception, and then we receive yet another 'special charge'. This was to change rooms from 2 beds to 3 beds. We paid an extra 200 euro to switch before 9am, or we would receive a see rate charge for the room we slept in. This aggregated me even more, because it wasn't our fault that we were given the wrong room when we previously booked for a 3 bed room. Other unpleasant surprises: our credit card number was stolen and had fraud with our stay here. If connected, I cannot say, but after all the money making schemes it would not surprise me. And found old Wodka bottles between our beds. Overall, the room served a simple purpose, but feeling robbed is the reason for a very low rating. GO AT YOUR OWN RISK
