Mercure Hotel Hanseatic Bremen

As im currently touring Germany I an seeing a lot of hotels and this one is by far the worst I've ever stayed in. I have learnt that if a hotel has a very modern/trendy reception, then the rooms will be BAD. This seems to be a trend. If I had booked this room myself I would have not stayed in it at all and requested a refund straight away. This hotel needs gutting and remaking. The decor is OLD, very much USED and Not well maintained. If you search online the pictures are bright, airy and clean. As you will see from my pictures you will see it looked smoke stained and filthy. The bathroom shower needs a very good scrub, the heater needs some care as does the mould by the toilet. The room comes with a hot plate but nothing to use on it. You get given a kettle and cups but not even a single tea bag or coffee sachet. The corridors look like there has been a Hurd of cattle walking down them. Unfortunatley for me I had to stay in this hotel for four nights. The pizza boxes were left outside a room for 3 days before the cleaning staff decided to move them. At breakfast a colleague of mine asked for fried eggs which they say they offer but they refused him eggs even though it was 20 minutes before the end of breakfast, he then asked for more baked beans as they had all gone to which they bought out cold ones for him. The staff then sat at the back of the dining room having their own food. Its always nice to feel like the staff are there to serve the guests. I think this covers most things and as you can see I was not impressed with this sorry excuse for a hotel. Google gives it 3 stars, this is very generous. Its a 1 from me

We arrived early in the day due to an earlyish flight. We dropped our bags off at the hotel and they stored no problem. We checked in no problem at 15:30, we were given our key and told what floor we were on. Breakfast times were given and we went to our room. Apart from checking in, we didn't have much need to speak to the staff there. Just one question about the tram service over the new year. Answered very thoroughly and in very good English. The room itself was fine, plenty of wardrobe space if we needed it, which we didn't, as we travelled light. The bed was very big (we had a superior double) with 2 single duvets. The bathroom (shower) looked big and ok at first impression. The supplied toiletries was just a handwash by the sink and shower gel in the shower, there was a hairdryer, which my wife says is alright. The shower itself is nice and powerful and warm too. The towels are nice and there was a radiator in the bathroom. The bed was very nice too. Really comfortable. A bottle of sparkling water is supplied, I think it's only 1 per visit as ours wasn't replaced. The TV has music as well as tv channels. We went for the breakfast option and it was excellent. A big window of time to get it. Plenty of options including cooked, fruit and yogurt, cereals, toast and seeds. Plenty of juice, teas/coffee and water. I couldn't see anything about gluten free/dairy free etc. Location was good for us. 2 mins walk to the tram stop. 6/7 mins tram into the city, 10 mins to the main train/travel hub and 5 mins to the airport itself. There's nothing to do around the hotel but there are restaurants/bars about 10 mins walk. We were there over the holidays and it was nice and quiet even though there is a big road junction. The day after new year it was somewhat busier, so during normal working times it may get quite noisy. The hotel was quiet with no door slamming. There is an excellent vending machine with alcohol, soft drinks and food. Overall I was happy with the hotel and the price we paid was really good.

Very dated, hostel type hotel. The lightning is appalling, bathroom tiles cracked everywhere and the grouting needs a serious clean. The online pictures were not taken in any of the rooms we saw. Breakfast was great though.
