Residence Hotel Hamburg

Good 3 stars very close to Central Station in a very ugly street. Spacious and clean room. You must always leave the key at reception when you leave. I didn't try breakfast. Elevator from a first floor by stairs. In front of the hotel there is an excellent Turkish bakery.

The street and area that the hotel is in seems very dodgy and noisy. The hotel is close to the main station and the main bus station. The staff at reception seemed to reflect the area. The person handling our check-in could not speak English and his German was barely understandable. The room was large, comfortable and clean. There are steep stairs up to the first floor, where one can (sometimes) catch an elevator to the next floor. Not recommended for anyone with hip-knee problems. The first day the elevator also did not seem to work. The bathroom was clean and functional, though some of the towels were so threadbare that I could have pushed my finger through some areas. The television only had three channels - 2 German shopping channels and Al Jazeera. The general impression of the place is tiredness. There were stains in the basin, the one bed lamp cover had holes in it, there were small holes in the duvet cover. Despite having a room facing onto the street, we did not experience the noise and commotion that other guests seem to have encountered. Our room was quiet, but we made sure to be back in the room before nightfall, as we would not have felt comfortable in the area after dark.

Inn very close to Hamburg's main train station, the Hauptbahnhof. Excellent welcome, large room very comfortable (number 31) and very quiet, with, in addition to beds, a sofa, armchair, table etc... Large well equipped bathroom. All very clean. Reception open 24/24, very friendly. Honestly to point out, we forgot a e-reader. We phoned, she had been found and dropped off at the reception where we could pick her up when we returned to Hamburg a week later. Good Value Award
