Terrible service and unacceptable details for a 5-star hotel
If the welcome and kindness of the reception staff were the only positive note, the rest of the stay was completely inadequate for a property that boasts 5 stars.
The cleanliness of the room was practically non-existent. Upon arrival, the bathroom was bare: there were no accessories of any kind, with the exception of only two glasses. I find it embarrassing that in a hotel of this category soap, shampoo, and body lotion are provided in plastic dispensers fixed to the wall, exactly like in public restrooms, instead of offering an adequate amenity kit.
Furthermore, the room had a terrace that turned out to be completely unusable and it was impossible to go out onto it (as can be clearly seen in…

We needed a place to stay when family quarters became unavailable to use during a heat wave. The Steigenberger hotel was a stylish, cool, and comfortable place to stay. Reception staff were friendly, gracious, and competent in their interactions with us. We’d love to return!

I stayed for two nights, from 12 to 14 June, at the Steigenberger Hotel in Bad Homburg in a Deluxe room.
First, the positive aspects: the room was clean and had a comfortable temperature, although the air-conditioning system was rather noisy.
I also appreciated that a bucket of ice was brought to my room, as there was no ice machine in the hallway. However, this is somewhat surprising for a hotel that presents itself as being in the top-class category.
I had previously visited the hotel in the spring of 2024, and at that time my stay was excellent. That was the reason why I chose to return to the hotel.
However, I must admit that my stay this time was more disappointing than positive.
I was assigned the room I had booked, which was a Deluxe room, but there was absolutely nothing Deluxe about it.
There was no minibar, no iron and no ironing board, which are normally expected in this type of room. The shower cabin had an empty shower gel dispenser mounted on the wall, but instead of replacing it, a new, unopened and unmounted bottle of shower gel had simply been placed on the floor.
The coffee and tea station had not been replenished, so the next day I had to find a member of staff in the hallway and ask for supplies for the coffee machine and electric kettle. The staff member was very kind and helpful, so credit to him for that.
There were no tissues in the built-in tissue holder in the bathroom, although the bathroom itself was nice and clean.
Normally, there is always an extra box of tissues placed under the sink in case the current box runs out, but that was not the case here.
It was not possible to get a late check-out, meaning three hours later at 3:00 p.m. instead of 12:00 noon, without having to pay for an entirely new night. The fairness of this can be discussed, but that is my view.
In my opinion, a hotel of this class should show a certain degree of flexibility and good judgment, especially when the request had already been made in writing before arrival during a period outside the peak season. It should therefore not have come as a surprise that I asked again.
Overall, I have to say that my stay this time was more disappointing than positive. As a result, I will have to consider carefully whether I choose to stay at the hotel again, although my next visit to the area is expected in the near future.
