CVJM Hotel am Wollmarkt

Great location: easy walk to old down town center and to TU Braunschweig, great value, good breakfast. Huge room, modern bathroom with exceptionally good water pressure (!) – though every room seems to have a somewhat different design. Best part the personable and friendly service trying to accommodate every need. The hotel doesn't have an elevator but my bags were carried up the stairs without me even asking for help. I would totally come back. Free parking available on private lot.

The price was extremely reasonable, which was the reason for choosing this hotel. Its location is central, very near the medieval city center. The staff was very nice and friendly. The breakfast was ok, but already more than an hour before the ending time, they had stopped refilling the cheese and charcuterie plates, so there was pretty much nothing left on some platters. The walls are paper thin, so you hear everything going on in the other rooms and in the hallway, so earplugs are necessary if you are a light sleeper. My room was very basic, the bed had a foam rubber mattress, and the pillow was not very good. The worst thing for me was that there were problems with the indoor air: it smelt moldy and felt humid, and I woke up with my eyes smarting, nose running and lungs whizzing. So I would not recommend this hotel for asthmatic or allergic people!

Overall it's ok for the price. You might want to plug your nose when you shower as it smells a bit mildewy and moldy. There is no soap besides the "one-for-all" shampoo body wash handsoap. The location is great. You're close to cinema, bars, downtown. The people at the reception and at breakfast are really sweet. I purposely did not clean a cobweb I found the first day in the corner of the bathroom to see if they would clean it. It was there Monday til Friday when I left. And everyday my room was "cleaned". It's also a place of prayer and something like YMCA. In the morning they sing hymns in a room near reception, and in the evening there are practicing christian rock bands there...
