Romantik Hotel Gebhards

Located exactly between the train station and the "navel" (central intersection of the Göttingen pedestrian zone) - each just a two-minute walk away - the hotel offers the best starting point to discover Göttingen. What some reviewers have described as "a bit dusty" is what I was looking for. A traditional hotel with noticeable history and carpets :) The room was huge - more like a small suite, the bathroom was quite new and clean, and the bed was great. The staff was friendly - even at 4:00 AM after having a good time with old schoolmates. Room cleaning was discreet, the minibar was stocked and free! I have never had a better breakfast (exquisite selection!) with such a pleasantly quiet atmosphere in a hotel of this still quite acceptable price range. Unfortunately, the parking situation is indeed somewhat limited....but hey: we are in the medieval old town right next to the train station, and you can of course reserve a parking space. There are also other paid parking options in the nearby area. If you prefer clean Motel Ones or interchangeable mid-range chain hotels, this is not the place for you. If you want to experience a bit of old hotel culture, you should stop here when you are in Göttingen.

On the way between Copenhagen and Strasbourg, we stopped at the Hotel Gebhards in Göttingen. When booking this property seemed to tick all the criteria (comfort, private parking, soundproofing, etc). When we arrive at the hotel, I show up at the reception: nobody. I'll wait four minutes and then nobody. I activate the doorbell and the receptionist arrives. She tells me that the private parking of the hotel is complete and that I have to park outside on the street equipped with pay parking meters limited to 4 hours. Once parked, I realize that my suitcase is very heavy to climb by the many steps of the main staircase of the front door for my 63 years. It was only after asking if there was no easier access that I was told that there was another passage via the courtyard of the private car park... We discover our room and it matches our expectations. Beautiful decoration, comfortable bed. The location of the hotel allows us to discover the city center and the Christmas market on foot. After a day by car and tourist market, I look forward to enjoying a good night's sleep before heading back on the road the next day. However, my mind is not quite relaxed knowing that my car is parked on a busy street and that I have to plan to pay the parking meter as early as 8:00 the next day. Once the lights and the television turned off and the ear was on my pillow, I heard the constant sound of "machinery" (V.M.C., other?). You get the impression that the neighbor runs his washing machine all night long. The room "Double Suite" was supposed to be soundproof but I recommend future guests not to opt for room number 250 perhaps too close to some noisy facilities. The bed was very comfortable but necessarily with a perpetual background noise and thoughts oriented on the safety of my car and on having to get up earlier so as not to forget to pay for parking on the street, when asked the traditional questions: " Did you sleep well?" "Everything went well during your stay?", I say: no! Breakfast lacks generosity with drip replenishment. The staff is very friendly.

A Superior Single Room with Twin Bed booked and paid for.. I got a single room in need of renovation with mini single bed. My inquiry at the reception was met with incomprehension. Rather, I was instructed that one could not expect a double bed for 126 euros. ( the description of the room was different though ) Somehow I didn't feel taken seriously as a guest and the wrong description is simply dubious and misleading. Would I book again? Absolutely not.
