Mercure Hotel Koeln City Friesenstrasse

I spent two nights here in July. My room and the bathroom were large, clean, and well-equipped. Only air conditioning was missing during the high temperatures. The rooms "facing the back" are not noisy even with the window open. The breakfast was very good and varied; there was enough available for every type of diet. The staff was always friendly, helpful, and competent.

What a contradiction! First the staff. They are superb. Really welcoming and helpful in every respect. But the whole place Dated - dirty in parts- dysfunctional The wi fi is hopeless Don’t go if you need it for work unless you are local. The television didn’t work - just 4 channels out of 100+ The whole place stinks of a sewer. But strangely it was ok enough and a great location. Mercure - if it is going to retain the badge it HAS to have an upgrade

Very disappointing and frustrating experience. The hotel is outdated and does not reflect the pictures at all. The room was worn, with old furniture and a general lack of care. On top of that, the staff showed zero flexibility or willingness to help. I had to cancel my second night due to a change of plans, and despite the circumstances, no solution was offered — no refund, no voucher, no possibility to reschedule. This is quite shocking for a hotel belonging to a major group. I expected a completely different level of service and customer care. I would strongly discourage anyone from booking here. If anything unexpected happens, do not expect any support or commercial gesture from this hotel.
