Rheinhotel Schulz

A very tastefully furnished hotel, with very delicious food, including Indian, and a wonderful beer garden with a view over the Rhine. The staff was very dedicated and very friendly, and our request for an additional single room could be fulfilled. Highly recommended.

The review refers to a dinner for 4 people at the restaurant in the Rheinhotel Schulz in Unkel, which has been under Indian management for some time: We order the Italian antipasti platter for 4 people for a whopping €59.90. The grilled eggplants and mushrooms were tasty, everything else was rather average, incomprehensible: three different types of cheese: Mozzarella balls, feta or shepherd's cheese in cubes, and 2 soft cheese rings divided into 4 quarters and seasoned differently. Plus lots of green pepperoni (which suggests that the Indian-run establishment is into vegetables and piles them on generously). That and many black olives of different sizes also fill the oversized square serving platter! (Rating of the antipasti: weakly satisfactory!). We order from the special "chanterelles" menu 1x salad with chanterelles (€20.90). The guest receives a head-sized bowl of dressed salad, covered in a warm chanterelle cream sauce, which turns the salad into an unappetizing mush in no time, which was not eaten. In addition, 2x rump steak with chanterelles, french fries, and side salad (€32.90): very good meat, unfortunately cooked completely through (of course, we should have noticed that the server didn't seem to know anything about "rare," "medium," or "well done" and therefore didn't ask - our bad luck!). The calf's liver (€26.90) fared similarly, which was served as the 4th. dish: cooked completely through, the two slices were reminiscent of the infamous, much-cited shoe soles! At least the server came back again and asked whether croquettes or french fries were desired with the liver - we were more familiar with mashed potatoes as a side dish! Well, the side salad with the rump steak and liver was delicious! The prices: in the upper price segment, but in our opinion too expensive given the overall circumstances! A pity! We probably won't go back...

We were here in hot June with three friends for one night and felt very comfortable. We were received very warmly. The house is tasteful and of high quality. The rooms were very large and equipped with air conditioning. We had lunch and dinner at the hotel. Both times, the quality was absolutely solid. The staff is certainly untrained. However, this did not bother us at all, as everyone was always very warm-hearted. We would visit the Rheinhotel a second time.
