HK Hotel Dusseldorf City

I stayed at this hotel with my company, www.gastro-nik.com, for the Euroshop 2026 trade fair. The room was okay, but not very clean. I reported a broken lightbulb, which wasn't replaced before my departure. The service was friendly.

very basic hotel. we had booked through hotel specials, an upgrade to superior room for 2 people. We got a very small room with an even smaller bed, but 1.40 wide !!! also only 1 pillow, duvet and bathrobe, this had solved reception, asked for another room because I still do not understand why this was a superior room when they also have rooms with 2 single beds, but this was not possible because the hotel was fully booked they said. Parking garage is very small so you can forget about that free parking. We had parking garage at the university, 15 euros for a whole day. location is good, tram stop around the corner, within 20 minutes in the center.

I have not experienced this after 20 years of business trips and certainly 1,000 hotel nights: I had made a booking through Booking for 4 double rooms. When I called reception on the day of arrival to postpone my arrival from 18:00 to 22:00, the staff member told me that he only had 2 rooms for us. This was a shock because the Medica fair took place and there was no hotel in Düsseldorf for under 350-500€ per room. The employee seemed very indifferent and has not even pretended to help us. In the end, I and my colleagues, all 60 years and older, had to find another hotel at 22:00 in the evening. Ultimately, we all slept in bunk beds in a hotel that was a construction site. I called the HK Hotel 2 days later and wanted to discuss this situation with the boss. They recorded my number and email and promised me a short-term contact. Yesterday and today, 5-6 days later, I called again. First I spoke to the supposed assistant of the GF, because at the reception as well as in the last 2 days nobody picked up the phone. Then I got the "boss." Initially he secured me the refund of the 480€ difference to what we had to pay in the other hotel. Then he changed his mind I should settle it with Booking. When I told him that Booking doesn't care and it's clearly the hotel's fault, the "boss" hung up. This is very unprofessional. I was mad, but I didn't offend anyone or anything like that. And then to end a phone call like this in this business is incredibly bad and a bad role model for every employee. It was quickly clear to me where the employees looked at her behavior. To sum up: we had an additional cost of 480€. Had to see where we stay at 10pm. 3 60 year olds and I had to sleep in small bunk beds on a construction site. My guess what really happened: Due to the simultaneous fair, the hotel forgot to triple its hotel prices of about 80€. So you preferred to rent the rooms elsewhere and thought with a "sorry" it was done. Avoid this hotel. At the reception, one rarely answers, staff are unfriendly. Especially if their learned sales phrases do not take hold, it becomes unprofessional. Due to the arbitrariness I had extra costs of 480€ which nobody wants to take care of. Even friendly apologies won't do me any good. The boss is impomptu and hangs up as soon as he is finished with his little Latin. So he will soon no longer have the hotel 4.1 rating points. With this attitude, the staff and especially this boss, the hotel will be destroyed!
