Holiday Inn City Centre

I wanted to spend a weekend experiencing the floating tram in Wuppertal. This is why I booked to stay at the Four Essen city Centre. When I booked, I thought I was booking into a four point flex similar style of hotel. I was very surprised, and disappointed, by what greeted me when I arrived. The hotel is tired and extremely dated. I felt like I had gone back to the early 1990s, with my room feeling untouched since that time. However, I will be positive and say that the room was extremely clean. The usual places you would expect to find dust and dirt, were extremely clean and clear. This is obviously a very well looked after hotel, and despite its shortcomings in modernity and room design, it was at least comfortable clean and warm. However, the kind of hotels that I enjoy staying in, means that I would probably never visit this hotel again.

Super bad, never again. Holes in the curtains of the previous reviews are still there despite them indicating in February 2025 that they would improve this, we are now 3 months further. Air conditioning does not work, 28 degrees and blood hot!!!! We have 2 kids of 3 and 5 years old and they sleep very badly so we do too. Hotel is filthy, dusty and not normally aged. We were thinking cheap and I'm sure it's not that bad, but gosh, this really can't be. I never write reviews but I hope I can warn people about this, you can rather pay a few extra tenners and you are in a nice hotel.

We have been to this hotel several times and were generally satisfied. During this stay, not only the cleanliness leaves much to be desired but also the friendliness of the reception staff. Both at the Check Inn it was clearly noticeable that the job (and therefore us) was annoying. Same thing a day later (and with another lady) when we pointed out that the TV was not working. We were rudely referred to the display that says the hotel will be taken over and renovated by another chain shortly. So it would be the way it is now. This is neither professional nor appropriate to current prices. The fact that the curtains do not slide in the rails but hang out to the left and right because no arresters have been pushed in should be mentioned incidentally.
