Schloss Rheinfels

We visited this hotel 39 years ago and have happy memories of wandering around the castle extensive ruins with our dog. Forget that now - you can only access the grassy areas we remember so fondly with a guide. A large part is also fenced off for repairs, but that is understandable. As for the hotel, we were given a room on the third floor. It was small and very, very hot and we barely slept. We had a dog (a different one!) and I had to keep getting up in the night to shower him with cold water. When we arrived, we went to the terrace bar for a drink - the dog was allowed here so we decided we'd eat there in the evening. However, it wasn't open in the evenings and we had to drive down to the town - something we wanted to avoid in the heat (35 degrees C) but we couldn't eat in the main restaurant as the room was far too hot to leave the dog in. Not a great experience for us personally and we won't ever go back.

Positive Fantastic location, dream view over the Rhine. Very good breakfast. Friendly staff Negative Dinner had significant weaknesses; the four-course menu is not worth it. The interior and overall furnishings are quite dated; one can notice the lack of investment. Wellness area is rather small. Only 9 sun loungers in total in the outdoor area.

A beautiful hotel with a magnificent view over the Rhine and Loreley. Room with balcony in the neighbouring building.
