Historisches Herrenkrug Parkhotel

For business reasons, I stayed two nights in this somewhat remote hotel. The tram stop is actually not far away. The path to the hotel, however, leads partly over cobblestones and is therefore not very pleasant to navigate with a suitcase. The check-in in the evening was quite matter-of-fact, even though the place was completely empty at that time. In addition, I was missing some important information. For example, I was asked to take the stairs to the second floor, even though there is also an elevator. Especially when traveling with a suitcase and a laptop bag, one could at least mention both options to the guest. The television was hidden in a closet and was extremely small – probably only about half the size of my monitor at the office. In the room itself, I found none of the usual information about the hotel, such as about the fitness room, room service, or a restaurant menu. The hotel website is also rather confusing and not very helpful in terms of information content. On the bed was a note about room cleaning. As is now common in many hotels, rooms are only cleaned every two days or upon request during longer stays. However, I had understood the policy regarding towels differently and was accordingly surprised to find no fresh ones the next day. At the reception, I then received a cloth bag with one large and one small towel each, as well as a carton of water. The bathroom only had a shower in the bathtub with an extremely small showerhead. Adjusting the water temperature correctly also proved to be a bit of a challenge at both the sink and in the shower. Overall, the room seemed significantly dated. One evening, I also bumped into the sharp corner of the table and ended up with a significant bruise. The hotel safe was also completely new to me, despite many hotel stays. It can only be opened and closed with a magnetic card – and it must be the same card each time. Somewhat impractical if, for example, you want to lock away your wallet along with your cards. Apparently, air conditioning is only available in the largest room category. A positive aspect, however, was that one of the windows was equipped with a fly screen and could therefore remain open during the day as well as at night without any problems. The breakfast buffet was generally sufficiently large and varied. However, there were clear differences in refilling. The second morning was the worse one: Empty containers were sometimes only refilled after a long time. I was also somewhat irritated by the porridge, which was in the refrigerated counter next to yogurt and other cold products. Accordingly, it was served cold and was more reminiscent of overnight oats. However, the consistency was already much too tough for that. Things did not go smoothly with the invoicing either. Initially, only one night was charged, although I had explicitly pointed out that I had stayed for two nights. Since I did not know the exact room rate, I did not notice the error when paying, but only later when reading the invoice in the room. So I had to go back to the reception. It took several minutes there until the invoice was finally corrected. In summary, the hotel did not convince me, especially as a conference hotel. It is a pity, because the location with the directly adjacent park actually offers a lot of potential. With more modern equipment, better communication, and a little more attention in service, much more could be made of it.

Really beautiful hotel with a stupendous park. We only stayed two nights because we were passing through, but we had a very good time. The room was super spacious. The breakfast is excellent, perhaps it is missing a few more lactose-free options. The dinners were delicious, although here too there was not much attention paid to lactose-free foods. Very kind and attentive service.

The first impression a stately lobby with adjoining bar and impressive wood panelled restaurant/dining room. Then: The sauna didn't work. Instead of a basket with a bathrobe and sauna towel, it costs money as well as a sauna visit. The spacious room does not contain tea or coffee station and O-Tone of a staff member there is no room service as there are no staff for it. But if you want to change the garbage bag or have similar things done, you can report it to the reception. For a hotel in this class and price category a new experience for me.
