AHORN Hotel Am Fichtelberg

Anyone who wants to return to a clean room after long hikes is unfortunately in the wrong place here. Our stay was characterized by significant mismanagement and a lack of service. Upon arrival on Sunday, we already had to wait an excessively long time for the room, which then wasn't even properly clean. The principle of sustainable cleaning every two days is commendable, but in our case, it was used as an excuse for zero service. In one week, the trash was never emptied, the bed was never made, and towels were not replaced from the floor. Requests and complaints at the front desk were ignored or not understood. Even the conversation with the hotel manager, Mr. Knobloch, was disappointing: Instead of fixing the problem permanently, they just dropped off towels, the trash remained, and we were fobbed off with a drink at the bar. The staff seemed overwhelmed and unfriendly throughout (especially Ms. P and Ms. H). Only Ms. Kühn was a positive exception. High occupancy does not justify poor treatment of guests. Not recommended.

I have already read quite a bit about Ahorn and can now join the conversation, since I was there! I could have skipped the attempts to make contact beforehand; no answer to two emails. After the third attempt to call, someone answered. The conversation could have been skipped as well. We then made the booking on-site.  After we had the key card and headed to the room, we had to wait to move in because the cleaning was not yet finished. In the room, we then realized for the first time how small it actually is. The room is basically only filled by the beds; the bathroom is the size of a closet. The standard of the rooms corresponds to a hostel. The price of over €200 for this small room incl. half board is clearly too high! (2 adults, 1 child and €20 surcharge for the dog). The half board without drinks was good. There is a lot of selection and also a children's buffet. The recreational activities for children were very good! Conclusion: We would come back, though not at the regular price! The offerings for children and the good food are arguments that, however, are not sufficient in the price range being charged. For that much money, one should be able to expect a room in which one can turn around.

We stayed at the hotel from 14.02. to 17.02.2026 and had a mixed experience overall. Positively noteworthy is the good and always sufficient food as well as the fast service with additional requests such as the pillows ordered. Unfortunately, however, there were several shortcomings, including an initially non-functioning heating system, cleanliness problems in the room and an unkempt fitness area with defective equipment. It is particularly disappointing that I have already sent my points to the hotel manager in detail via complaint email, but have not received any feedback or comments so far. For the called price of around 1,800 €, the overall picture does not meet our expectations.
