BEST WESTERN HOTEL BIRKENHOF

The staff is friendly and the hotel's location is very good. However, the room is not cleaned daily, but only every two days. Unfortunately, this was not announced at the time of booking nor in the terms and conditions. Furthermore, on the day of cleaning, the bathrooms were not cleaned and no toilet paper was restocked (the existing toilet paper was also of very low quality). Only the towels were changed and the beds were made. The breakfast is more in line with the standard of a 3-star hotel and not what one would expect from a 4-star hotel.

During my hiking trip, I had the opportunity to stay one night in this hotel. The hotel is conveniently located in the town. It is not far to the lifts; the train station can be reached in about 10 minutes on foot. The sauna/wellness area is clean, but the ambiance is somewhat dated. The rooms and bathroom were clean; a bit more flair would have been nice. The restaurant in the house offers few but very good dishes (somewhat pricey). The staff is consistently friendly; the breakfast buffet opens at 7 AM. The hotel is popular among hikers who like to get up early to go on tours. In any case, the breakfast room was already well filled shortly after 7 AM.

The location of the hotel is very good, offering a beautiful view from the room, and the staff is consistently friendly. The breakfast was okay; everything was good. However, the hotel urgently needs to be renovated. One feels deeply transported back to the GDR. Both the rooms, hallways, and the sauna area. It can be much, much better.
