Das Hotelchen

A small hotel located on a main road on the outside of Lubeck. Due to the traffic on the road, we only arrived at 6:30 PM. We received contact via the bell and the code to enter. The key was in the room. The Hotelchen is a somewhat dated and simple small hotel. The room was small and looked clean, except for the carpet which was really filthy (why not just a tile floor?) The bathroom was really subpar. Paint was peeling, the joints of the tiles were loose and therefore not clean. Booked again for the way back and we had a slightly larger room and bathroom. Which also looked neat, but the carpet was bad here too. The breakfast was simple but everything was there and tasted good. Only during breakfast did we see people who were friendly and took good care of us.

We needed a place to stay for one night after getting off the ferry. Hotelchen is just a short drive away and really perfect for the purpose: you get a door code so you can arrive late (ours got lost in the mail but anyhow good idea) and the rooms are clean and nice. Parking is available by the nearby streets, their own parking place is rather small. The breakfast reveals that the hotel keepers do this with a heart; many cute details and lots to choose from. Coffee served to the table and a really nice bed and breakfast type of atmosphere. Would stay here again for the same purpose.

We stayed here for twelve days while exploring Luebeck and the surrounding area. The room was one of the smallest but still a good size with good fittings and spotless bathroom. Breakfast was excellent, everything you could want served in a very nice room. The people could not be more helpful and welcoming. Easy walking distance of the railway station. We had a wonderful stay. Don't bother with the big, grand hotels in the centre, everything you could want is here for a more modest price.
