Aparthotel Oberhof

The hotel doesn't look that inviting from the outside, but it was okay inside. The rooms are small, but functional and renovated. The breakfast and dinner were tasty and sufficient, in a "home-style" way. The chef and the cooks were very nice and always helpful. So, well-suited for a short vacation in the Thuringian Forest.

Even a star is too much for this hotel. You travel 400 kilometers only to find out on-site, in disbelief, that you have ended up in a rundown youth hostel rather than a hotel. The decor looks decades old, the furniture appears to have been taken directly from the junkyard, and the overall impression is simply shocking. The staff at the reception was particularly disappointing. One searches in vain for friendliness, competence, and service orientation here. It is completely incomprehensible to me how this hotel receives some of the good reviews. Presumably, some reviewers have never experienced a truly good hotel. I travel a lot and have seen quite a bit, but this experience takes the cake. Anyone who values quality, comfort, and professional service should steer clear of this hotel. ADDENDUM... Unfortunately, you do not seem to handle negative criticism particularly constructively, as is evident in your responses to other reviews. We travel a lot and found another hotel shortly after our departure. After we shared our experiences there and showed the pictures of your establishment, the staff was just as astonished as we were. For a comparable price, we received exactly what we expected: Cleanliness, service, well-maintained rooms, and an appropriate quality. Regarding your claim that we shouted: That does not correspond to the facts. We conducted the conversation in a factual manner. Even the representative from our travel agency could confirm this over the phone and was able to hear it when she repeatedly tried to reach your establishment because your staff did not answer the phone; she could hear everything through our phone. Our evaluation is based solely on the experiences we had on-site. These were unacceptable to us in several respects. We are therefore glad that we did not have to continue our stay. We wish you all the best for the future and hope that the mentioned deficiencies will be reviewed and resolved. Oh yes, they call themselves an aparthotel. They might want to reconsider that. In retrospect, we should have taken photos of the rooms as well. However, the condition of the outdoor area and the facade was already so striking to us that it significantly affected our expectations of the establishment.

A hotel in the category as we booked it. Clean functional rooms. Good central location. Food as part of the half board was ok, not overwhelming, but quite good. Staff very nice and accommodating Mr. Jansen should still work on the service idea. All in all, you can definitely recommend the hotel for a weekend
