excellent breakfast, very friendly service

Like most, I thought it was a 5 star hotel. I noticed the error on arrival. No question if you can help with luggage etc. After something was wrong with the lock of the room, I was told there was no technician. That's it. The water in the shower did not drain and the old coffee machine was just disgusting. Likewise, a huge stain on the curtain. As “compensation” for the inconvenience, I got a voucher for a coffee. Because I have to wait so long to check out, I ordered a latte macchiato. And now the clue: I actually had to pay 20 cents because the voucher was only valid for one coffee!!️ This is so incredibly embarrassing. This pettiness, this provinciality, absolutely underground.

We struggle with an overall rating: the hotel is a legend, a pity that there have been several changes of ownership in recent years. Such a hotel actually belongs cherished and maintained. Unfortunately, large hotel chains have little understanding of this, because they run such houses according to purely financial ratios. You can tell in different places. Although the house was extensively renovated several years ago, it did not have the quality and quality that such a house deserved. This is also reflected in the star rating, which has dropped from 5 stars superior in recent years to 4.5 stars. A noticeable sign of this are the rooms, which have a varying degree of renovation, from unrenovated (e.g. theme suites) to newly renovated. The restaurant “AnnA offers a menu that takes a lot of getting used to to to say the least. Since we come to Weimar every few months, that is a great pity, as we have to switch to other restaurants. To say the least: too ambitious and intentional *haute cuisine*, but simply not good enough for it, sometimes so idiosyncratic that you are left speechless. A few classics with excellent ingredients would be a real recommendation and upgrade for the restaurant. Again, you can show that you are in the upper league of cooking. After exquisite champagne and exquisite wines, the only thing left is the stump from the bar menu! That should not be the claim of the hotel or the restaurant. Too bad, because the dining room is the most beautiful in the city and the consistently very good and ambitious staff is sorry that they have to represent and sell these food. Conclusion: very nice historic house, breakfast very good, evening menu for people of good taste and well-versed in luxury gastronomy not recommended Recommendation: Urgently revise menu in restaurant!
