Orion Star in September-25
We were there for 3 weeks.
Very satisfied and can be highly recommended.
It was the second time we were here.
Large & lovely pool area with good sun loungers and umbrellas.
Close to the beach with nice sandy beach.
Friendly staff, helpful and good Service.
Very pleased with our trip and will be happy to return. Should we travel to Crete again, it will be Orion Star/Relax.
Lots of sights and there is much to do in the surrounding area.
Easy to take the local buses, bus stop close. Many good restaurants and if you walk a bit there are more Agia Marina and a bit away Platanias.
Almost every morning we went for morning walks behind the hotel; nice mountain areas overlooking the sea & village and old town with nice church.
Hope they also renovate Orion Star as they did at Relax.
Thank you for us!! JEANETTE AND ULF, LAHOLM

Nice quiet hotel where a lot of apartments are completely newly renovated.
We stayed in the best 2 bedroom superior apartment with daily cleaning, daily change of towels.
Nice beds with neat mattresses, large balcony with fine table and chairs, nice bathroom with plenty of space and plenty of hot water.
Wifi works impeccably
Fantastic views and wonderful atmosphere throughout the hotel not least thanks to Litsa, mammi and Alex

We are a family of four (two adults and children of 12 and 13 years old) who stayed here for 14 days summer 2025. We had hoped for a pleasant, relaxing stay – but unfortunately the hotel did not live up to expectations.
+ Positive:
The most positive thing we take with us is the small snack bar/café at the pool area. Here we were served simple, but good food and cold drinks in a pleasant environment. The service there was gentle and welcoming, and it contributed to some nice moments at the pool. The pool area was, by the way, perfectly fine, and it seemed like there were enough sunbeds – we never experienced it getting completely full.
– Negative:
The hotel looks generally tired, and unfortunately the rooms are too. We had booked a family room with one bedroom and two beds in the living room. The room we got was in the basement, completely without a view. The size itself was straightforward, but the standard was far from what was shown on the web pages – especially the bathroom. It was old, poorly kept, and the only ventilation was a window opening out to the hotel hallway. When the window was open, there was free view of the shower. It all reminded me of something from the 80s – and probably it hasn’t been upgraded since.
We tried to change rooms the first day, but got a cash message in the reception that it was not relevant.
The double bed in the bedroom was actually two single beds on wheels that slipped apart during the night – not ideal. Air conditioning worked fine, but they took themselves well paid for this (50€ per week).
What really ruined the stay was the behavior of the staff. My wife was subjected to a very unpleasant episode with a male washer, who became furious when he discovered toilet paper in the toilet (in a hotel – really?). As she tried to clean up, he picked up the phone and began filming in the bathroom. Totally unacceptable. We took it up with the front desk, which in no way took it seriously. Maybe it's common practice here? After some discussion they offered to change laundry, but when we mentioned that the whole situation had ruined the desire to stay, the receptionist was cursed and called us freaks. After this we kept ourselves consciously away from the reception for the rest of the stay.
Location and overall impression:
The hotel is right on the edge of Agia Marina, closer to Kato Stalos. Located a bit high, but there are some shortcuts down to the main street. About 5 minutes walk to the nearest beach. There are a lot of restaurants and shops in the area, but it is around 40 minutes walk to the center of Platanias where there is more life and activities.
The hotel offers no activities other than the pool, neither for children nor adults, and after 14 days we were thoroughly tired – both of the place and of the poor service.
Summarized:
We would love to travel back to Crete, but never back to this hotel. There are many pleasant options where you are actually greeted with a smile and a little respect. Customer service meant something, and here it was completely absent.
