Well well well, Corfu Maris, where to start. I was about to give it 3 stars, but the group I came with all were telling me to give 1 star or even 2 stars and in the end I made myself state the truth and truth be told, 2 stars it should get from us. Lets start with the good parts. The location of this hotel is wonderful. It is right at a very chill small beach with crystal clear waters. All rooms have such a nice eastward sea view where the sunrise is just beautiful. The town of Benitses is a small touristy town with nice shops and some really really good restaurants. Everything is in walking distance. Right next to the hotel there is a free parking area. Careful though, this parking area apparently does not belong to the hotel. It is community parking and at evenings everyone can park their cars there, mostly people visiting Benitses and it can happen that you do not find a place, so keep that in mind. What else was good... lets say the breakfast was better than some other places I have seen. Far from perfect, but they had nice sponge cake, jams and nice croissants. It seems that their restaurant is good too, we did not try it, because there were so many other restaurants in Corfu, so I am not writing about it. The staff was also nice, they were quite polite and seemed to really want to help with everything, even though there was a lot of confusion from the booking part. Now lets get to the most important part... the honest review. To summarize in one word would be... neglect. First thing id like to mention would be the poor cleanliness. From the floors of the rooms to those of the hallways, there was dust everywhere, they would not get swept at all. Out bed sheets were only changed twice and we stayed for 10 days. The towels were also only changed twice, and once they had no towels at all, and we just had to deal with it. I cant even write enough about the bed sheets. Imagine the cheapest white bed sheets you have ever seen, now imagine even cheaper. These ultra cheap bed sheets were so overused, they were falling apart in places. And the mattresses, oh my god the mattresses, those were so old they could tell you stories of world war 1. The fridge was also really old and falling apart too, actually everything in the rooms was old, overused and ready to go to the trash. Ok ok, lets wrap it up, lets be done and get to the point. The hotel is doable, there is AC, TV, balcony and a roof on your head. But the problem is, it presumes it is 4 star worthy and it charges you more than 140 Euros per night. If it was 3 star, and 70 euros a night, it would have gotten 4 stars rating from me, but no no no, this hotel is nowhere near the standard of a 4 star hotel. It is overpriced for what you get and it gave me some tourist trap vibes, let me explain. It seems like the owners are only after squeezing as much money as they can. They are not willing to spend one cent in refurnishing and repairing stuff, as seen in the broken furniture, suicidal mattresses and prison bed sheets. Also, and this is just my theory, I cant prove it, but I also did not hear any greek being spoken by any guest over there. There were only foreign tourists mostly sent by agencies like us. The hotel is prepaid, so if you come you are stuck and cant leave. Now, why do greeks avoid this place? I dont know but it looks like a red flag to me. I have been all over Greece and this is the fist time I see this. All in all, the place is full of neglect and really overpriced. I have stayed at 30 euro a night hotels that have had better rooms.
