Euroxenia Tropical

I stayed at the Tropical Hotel in June 2009. The food was very repetetive and nearly always cold. Although I went all inclusive no one used the bar in the evenings and there was a very poor selection of drinks and no tonic! The rooms were clean but shabby and no hot water for 3 days and then only tepid. A lot of the sun beds by the pool were broken and the garden furniture (approx 8 chairs and a table) were in need of replacement. There was no atmosphere at all in the hotel and for english guests no rep and very limited information. Although I would go to Rhodes again I would not stay at this hotel.

We paid 800 pounds for this AI 3*holiday, what a rip off! We booked with uktravelshop.co.uk should have realised there could be a problem as no ticketts arrived though they said they had posted them.We will NEVER use them again.We arrived at 4am and walked into the 'lobby' to find a sleepy male there who gave us a key and stated 'upstairs', dragged our bags to the room and phew! what a dissapointment. We were told the frigde was replenished x2 per week, nothing in it and we could not get even a drink of water as the hotel stops any kind of service at around 11.30pm each night.first impression was that we had been booked into one of those soul destroying B&Bs they use to house the homeless in!The room was dingy, lit by 2 wall lights with eco bulbs and no shades.White stuccoed everything but our ceiling had dirty mouldy black marks over it.The curtains were stained, hems down and mouldy at the bottom.The beds were clean but looked like they were dismantled kids bunk beds. The radio was located in a handleless drawer and was simply in there, a mass of wires and not attached to anything.TV satalite - 4 stations in greek, bar one which shows 70s music stuff. Actually it was in keeping with the 'hotel' as it really is a throw back from the seventies and the furniture etc looks like it was bought in a jumble sale from that era.Take your own soaps etc as there are no complimetry any things!and no hair dryer, kettle etc.Anyway,went to bed and i woke with the sun, pulled back the curtains and wow! what a view, a huge buiding site literally on the door step,we were not told about this, so you can imagine the dust etc.We asked to change rooms and were shown 2 more but rejected these as ours appeared the best of a bad lot.The AI... the food was inedible, conjealed eggs at breakfast, ice cream every desert and cheapest ingredients they could buy.Tinned fruit and frozen veg.One meal consisted of some very burnt looking meat (my partners actually does like his meat creamated) we really could not tell what it was, we thought it was beef anyhow, he helped himself and we went to sit in the plastic patio furniture dining area, he stuck his fork in and a spurt of bright red blood fountained out of it across the table....needless to say we did not eat there again.It turned out to be liver.The swimming pool was was filled with a green slime on the bottom as it had not been cleaned in God knows how long, we could not use it.I think the pool was responsible for the amount of mossies there.I got bitten on my legs 103 times the first night when sitting near the pool, all went septic.The very nice apothakey man down the road, first asked if we were staying at the Tropical (obviousley i was not alone in being biten) and then gave me antibiotics.I did not get bitten in other parts of rhodes.The staff were probably the most miserable and unhelpful lot i have ever come across. We had a drink there (watered down as when paying for them in the town they taste and effect you as alcohol should), drinks are served in yellow plastic mugs with red writing on the side (cheap job lot) the red came off on our hands and when wearing white trousers this is not good.My partner told the staff who simply said 'I know", another when asked for an ash tray told us 'over there', another did give us a saucer.The rep- appeared on our first day and she took one look at us and voluntered 'you are dissapointed?" she was well aware about this dump and was not in the lest surprised, she pretended to do us a favour by getting us permission to use their sister hotel the Marathon 4* in the town. Building is much better and the pool fine but the food is not much better and for a 4* dreadful.We duly went there and showed the recepionist our note saying we are to be allowed to use all facilitied and she stated this was unusual as all the others guests just use the place, so no notice is ever taken about the Tropical if you complain. We met 3 other english couples there who all felt the same, we nicknamed the the place the Hotel Calafornia as "you can check in any time you like, but, you can never leave'. It appears that once the travel agents have your money they don't want toknow.We tried to phone uktravelshop about 30 times but they willnot answer calls from abroad even though one of the numbers to press states 'if you are in your resort abroad and have a problem press 5'.We also spent a tenner or more e miling them, but no joy there.Eventually Trish Evans did phone, this was in response to my e mail about making them pay for any treatment i need due to septic bites, she listened and promised to get back, but never did. One couple were placed in a small room next to the septic tanks (sewerage) and their room stank of it.they were eventually moved after her bed leg broke at 3am and she banged her head on the floor (hi to Pauline and kevin),Another young couple Andy and Claire had a toddler with them and although the hotel is supposed to have a kiddies area this was ot the case.Kiddies area consisted of one metal slide which was dangerous to use as it got so hot.We all bonded in sheer despair at the place. Thank goodness we were only booked in for a week. We were not expecting a grand hotel but 3* my bum!!. I would not recomend this hotel to anyone. I will not recomend uktravel shop to anyone either. the only goo thing about this holiday was the sun and sea, but don't forget to take sea shoesm the beach is pebbles! and the sun loungers cost 4euro's a day.

This is not a hotel for British Tourists! The rooms are not bad. Yes they are basic, but what else do you need. The food was poor except from the 2 warm meals that were offered during the week long stay. At the moment there are builders working opposite and they start at 5.30 am and work right through the day. Even without this though, it is still poor accommodation and i would not go back. That said, Rhodes is a lovely destination.
