Mediterranean Hotel

Room- Helpful and friendly staff, sometimes a bit unprofessional for 5 star. Good quality room, nice bathroom, amazing view. Food- Great range of options, tasty and eat as much as you want. Overall- Clean, good Air conditioning 1 negative point- no smart TV- TV was Satellite only, no good options, no apps, no movie channel. No Bluetooth option for phone/ tablet. For 5 star hotel not good enough. Even 3 star hotel has this. Would recommend

A 5 star hotel in name only and probably for the maximum tourist tax. The beach is very rocky, you need special shoes. Small, dusty rooms, cleaning is done superficially during the rest hours, 2-4pm. Good food but repetitive every evening with small exceptions. Tired, bored waiters and the head waiter very rude. I paid the bill with him and he didn't tell his waitress who thought we left without paying, he probably took the money and when I confronted the waitress about the situation he acted like a fool. Rhodes, like the island, is wonderful.

Firstly i would like to start this review from BEFORE my holiday even started. I am completely gluten free, and on booking my holiday in June 2025 (we found a good deal in advance for what is advertised as a 5 star hotel) i emailed on 8th June 2025 to let them know and ask whether the hotel catered for GF. Unfortunately i did not receive a response until 11th June 2026 (day before my flight) to inform me that actually did offer GF food at the buffet and staff could accommodate. I should have realised that the fact it took over 365 days to respond to me this would be the start of my issues, however, the hotel offered to book a taxi transfer for us and i thought this was good service as i hadn’t booked on through my original booking. Pick up from the hotel, and drop off was smooth, check-in was also smooth, friendly staff and what seemed a pleasant atmosphere, not to mention the location was exceptional on the sea front just a short 10/15 min walk from the town shops and also the old town. The problem then started when i arrived to the hotel buffet for tea (7pm). I had on a pair of shorts and long white beach cover up shirt (non see through) with a bikini under. I was not allowed in the buffet with any buttons on my shirt undone, i did them up as requested and was still barely allowed as i was wearing shorts, strange i thought as others were walking in in shorts and ‘bikini/bralette’ style tops. I didn’t think much of it, until the treatment of me and my partner became noticeably different. I scanned the buffet looking for the gluten free option, perhaps bread or something, however there was nothing in sight. I asked for some gluten free bread and it sadly never arrived (even though i was told someone was going to fetch it). I also looked at all the food available, a large selection of hot food and there was not a single item that was gluten free. Some of the food available had a sign to say what it was and what allergens were included, those labelled were all gluten containing foods and those not the chef told me ‘not for you’. When i asked what was for me, he took me to the salad bar which consisted of cheese, pasta salad (not for me) salad with dressings on (not for me) and then individual bowls of grated carrot, onion and cucumber, i was told these were ok for me. Upset by the lack of choice, i opted for some cold meat (i think it was turkey) and salad. This continued as a running theme all holiday with no one really knowing what gluten free was and leaving me feeling very appreciative about eating anything - we ate out most nights despite being half board. Breakfast was somewhat of the same story, i asked for gluten free bread on more than one occasion and was told someone’s going to bring it to me…it never came. The hot breakfast was cold, barely allergen lablled and people were using the wrong tongs for the wrong food item (this also happened a lot at tea) so it was all just contaminated through cross contamination. Breakfast for me consisted of yogurt each morning as this was the only option. This then brings me onto the staff, they were incredibly rude, dismissive and not helpful at all. At tea we were never offered a drink (a waiter was to come and take drinks orders) and the service was incredibly slow. On the final morning i arrived at breakfast and put my belongings on a table as always , bag on chair, phone and room key on the table so show it was occupied while i dished up my yogurt and on arriving back at the table my stuff was gone and someone else was there. I was informed by the individual and a waiter my stuff was in the middle of the buffet room on the trays with the dirty plates and cutlery as someone else needed that table. The pool area is tiny and sunbeds are located around the side of the pool in rows of two beds with no umbrellas (not around the actual pool itself). If you are not waiting at the pool door by 9:30am you won’t get a bed until gone 2pm (we didn’t actually spend the day at the pool due to this and the fact the pool is also under a shaded canopy so is freezing (personal preference i suppose). Based on this experience i would most definitely not call this hotel 5* by anyone’s standards. I would also not come here if you have any food allergies, especially not gluten. I would also not recommend if you enjoy relaxing by the pool. There are so many far better looking hotels around. Overall we really enjoyed our holiday to Rhodes as it is a beautiful place with plenty to do, stunning beach clubs / beaches and alternative pool options (at a cost). We will most definitely be returning to Rhodes but will not be returning to this hotel again and will be actively warning others to stay away. A final point to add, if you are under the age of 40 it’s definitely not the place for you.
