Ocean Wifi Hotel

Ok. I get it. It's a budget hotel. I wasn't expecting much...but this place is a S***HOLE. It is perhaps the most depressing place I've EVER STAYED. There's a lot of other clean/basic places to stay in HK that aren't absolute holes of hell like this place. NEVER AGAIN!! A) Entire place REEKS of smoke + staff won't do anything about it B) Noise from reception at all hours C) Fire alarm went off 2x while I was there b/c of people smoking cigarettes D) Beds are the LEAST comfortable EVER. Try sleeping on your side without being sedated. It's not possible. It HURTS E) I'm OK w/ small rooms, but you literally CAN'T MOVE Well...as the name says, at least the Wifi worked. Seriously...Even if you're a budget traveller. Don't do it. Place smells like s***, frequented by seedy people, ALWAYS noise from reception no matter what room you're in + the beds might as well be rocks.

Location is great, right in the centre of Kowloon and only 3 minutes to MTR stations of Mong Kok or Prince Edward; the famous ladies and goldfish market are in this area. My single-room was small, about 2x2 meters (incl. shower and toilet), but one can’t expect more in a place like Hongkong. I was a bit surprised that my room had no window. It wasn’t that bad, but one should be aware of that before booking (I think that all the larger rooms have a window). The room was quite clean, wifi was fast and stable and AC worked well. I had almost no contact with the staff, so I can’t say anything about that. But the woman at the check-in was able to speak English. The entry to the hotel is a bit hidden. Coming from the south (MTR Mong Kok) you walk along Kowloon’s Main Street Nathan Road and after No. 748 you turn right and after the store at the corner, there is a thin door where there is a small sign of the hotel. Usually, there is a guy sitting in entry corridor. The Hotel itself is in the 3rd floor. Overall, I can recommend this place for a stay in Hongkong. Just don’t expect too much. We booked a twin room from the 11th to 15th Feb 2014, and I must really say that if you intend to book this hotel, be prepared for nothing but the basics, which may not be a bad thing if you're not a fussy person with limited budget. The heater may take up to 15 minutes to warm up and the wifi may be unstable at time. The room was very clean, and staffs were very friendly. Only 1 of the 2 service elevators can be used, do remember to get a spare key from the hotel staffs as the entrance of the building closes at 10.30 or so. Location of the hotel is pretty neat, about 3-4 streets away from ladies street. Pretty decent food can also be found around the area, and its a 3-5 minutes walk away from either Mong kok or Prince Edward MTR station. I would strongly advice to call the hotel direct to make bookings as I paid around 600+ HKD per night for my room, and I was told if you called them direct without going through agency or travel booking websites, the cost would be around 500HKD. Overall, a cosy hotel. So if you don't need a 2000+HKD per night hotel room, you may want to give this a try.
