Stayed here few years ago as a part of an organized tour. The hotel arranged in several buildings was in pretty bad shape back then, no wonder it is closed now. The rooms were outdated but clean. Mine has a balcony with beautiful Danube view. Poor breakfast with limited choices of poor quality food. In addition, no replacement of items they run out of, the waiters seemed to have more important things to do. Deserted pool and tennis courts, seems to be the place was pretty popular once. The best thing about this hotel is the location - right on the bank of the Danube river, in a very serene area with a nice promenade and many restaurants, cafes, nightclubs and water activities in summer. Some serious renovation will do.

We stayed at the Monte Christo for two days. It seemed like a relaxed setting, near the river where we could walk. The beds were ok, and it was clean enough, but it had the air of a place that had given up awhile ago. There were 8 or 10 things broken in the room (miss matched plumbing fixtures, furniture with broken trim, things were cracked and tired looking. The beds were ok and the room average size for Europe. The breakfast was included, but not very good. Even though we were one of a handful of guests the first night, and told them when we planned on breakfast, they had removed the bread and unplugged the coffee pot (so the coffee from concentrate wasn't even warm). It seemed like a hotel that was used by tour busses passing through, and not a place where anyone lingered. The family dog woke us up each morning, since he was right outside our window (even though there were 60 or 80 unused rooms where they could have placed us away from the dog).
