Novotel Budapest Danube

Everything you expect from a Novotel - clean, inexpensive, nice bar and friendly staff. Only minor gripe - the housekeeping removed our towels one day and did not replace them, aside from this all good.

At check-in we were allocated a room with a dated bathroom equipped for guests with disabilities - folding shower seat, grab bars, modified sanitary ware - despite not having any need. We kindly asked to change rooms and we were quickly answered that there was no other availability. No alternative, no excuse, no attempt at a solution. Accessible rooms exist for a very good reason: the problem is not the room, but having it assigned without notice and being liquidated when it is mentioned. For a hotel of this standard, such customer management is well below expectations - especially as a very first interaction. Tip: Always ask for confirmation of the room type assigned before boarding. Here the accessible ones seem to end up to those who have not requested them, without transparency.

The location of Novotel Budapest Danube is excellent – right by the Danube with a nice view of the Parliament and easy access to the city center. The room itself was also very comfortable and modern, with a good size and layout that felt spacious and well designed for a family. Unfortunately, our stay was significantly affected by the ventilation and cooling system. The room was very hot throughout the entire four‑night stay, and it was clear that the air conditioning/ventilation was not working properly. The issue was reported to the staff, who mentioned that the AC system was not yet available due to seasonal transition, but this was never clearly communicated to us before or during booking, and we were not informed that the room would be without proper cooling. Later, we were told a fan would be provided, but this was never delivered. The room therefore stayed uncomfortably hot, especially at night, which made the stay much more unpleasant than expected given the hotel’s standard and location. We appreciate the staff’s later apology and they did offer loyalty‑point compensation, but the overall experience felt disappointing for what otherwise should have been a very pleasant stay. The experience was disappointing – think carefully before you book if you are sensitive to room temperature.
