I managed to visit Budapest in August, just before they closed their borders again. I stayed at Residence Baron for 10 days and can recommend it wholeheartedly after it's possible to travel again! The location is ideal - I walked everywhere and when you step right of the hotel door, you see a nice square in front of you, then Danube with its beautiful bridges, to the left the market hall and to the right, the shopping street Vaci u. I just loved this hotel, though it was a bit peculiar with all missing tourists in hotels and Budapest. It was easy to keep distance. The personnel of the hotel was great. People were friendly and helpful. Breakfast was versatile, nothing to complaint about there. The only thing I didn't like, was the thin walls, so I could hear the sounds of the neighbouring rooms quite clearly. People speaking with loud voice, tv, etc. Yes, I'm a light sleeper. I was so happy during my stay in this hotel and in Budapest, as I bumped into so many nice people that I could spend my time with (as I was solo traveling).

The hotel is small and older, but it isn’t expensive and in a great location. I could walk to all the major sites. It is also about a minute away from a tram line. The breakfast was average. My room was small with a twin bed. There wasn’t any place to unpack. The staff was nice.

Definitely not a 4 Star. It’s clean and the reception staff are extremely friendly. No cleaning of the rooms each day only beds made and towels changed. The lift is slow to arrive and states it has a max of 4, but I don’t think it holds more than 2, certainty if you have luggage. Rooms are spacious. The shower is in a strange place above the bath and difficult to shower other than hold the shower head rather than leave in its holder. Bath very narrow but does have a spa, but you wouldn’t believe the noise it makes! Power points are extremely difficult to get at other than one point. Overall, rooms are fine. General upkeep of the hotel is good but doesn’t have that 4 Star class. Breakfast is average at best. Limited options and toasting bread is a chore. No clearing of used plates by the waitresses. Overall I’d say breakfast if optional should be ignored as there’s plenty of nearby places to eat, and you can eat what and where you want at what time you want. Location, first class. Any hotel by the River and a Bridge is going to hold a good location. It makes crossing over to Buda only a short walk. Hotel overall? Very nice, friendly, but only 3 Star I feel. Others could disagree, but although we are not rich people, we do save up for luxury hotels on our trips and have become accustomed to quality and therefore Residence Baron falls just short. I’m being super critical I suppose as I certainly wouldn’t say it’s the worse placed we’ve stayed but not high end. 3 Star not 4 I’m afraid.
