The hotel was in a fantastic location. Just a block from the main shopping and dining area allowing for a little more peace and quiet at night. There is a tour bus pickup a short 2 block walk. The staff was all very friendly and we found the woman checking us in was especially helpful, courteous, accommodating and friendly with every person we saw her interact with - and there were a lot as it was a busy day when we checked in.
The beds were comfortable with clean bathrooms. I will note our room needed the bathroom flooring tile to be regrouted. Our hotel didn't have a lot of extra amenities but there are many affiliated hotels nearby that you can take advantage of some extra options as a guest at this location.

Starting with the positives, this hotel has a great location in the downtown area - just a few steps from Laugavegur in one direction and an easy walk to Bus Stop #14 and the new bus terminal stop on Skúlagata. The staff were pleasant, the breakfast - while limited compared to larger Center Hotels properties - was enough. For some reason, the hot water here didn't have the characteristic sulfur smell that we experienced elsewhere - yay! The elevator (lift) seemed quite new. That's the good stuff.
Unfortunately, our "standard" room was small (even for an older city hotel) and awkwardly laid out. (Opt for a "superior" room if you can.) The furnishings were worn and tired. The shower was dark and left water all over the bathroom floor. The vanity top was made of extremely uneven natural stone so that bottles of lotion or makeup tended to fall over when set down. It was hard to use the toilet without knocking a roll of paper off of the holder onto the floor. We had to use the desk to hold one suitcase open as there were no drawers for unpacked clothes, and the shelf in the wardrobe was too high for my wife to reach. The one drawer (in the desk) was falling off. After a couple of days we found it depressing to return to the room. Our room faced an open area used for seating by the adjacent bars and cafes, so the noise level was pretty high late into the evening. Hard to avoid in summertime in the city, but just FYI.
The carpeting in the common areas was also tired, and worn through on the stairs from the lobby up to the next floor.
We didn't need it, but I didn't see any accessible entrance to this building.
All in all, we would have been disappointed with this property under the best of circumstances, but because we stayed during the "eclipse week" of 2026, we had to pay in full in advance, and at a very inflated rate that I have never paid to stay anywhere, ever. (Yes, everything in Reykjavik was crazy expensive that week, so it was just salt in the wounds in this case.)

Location and staff are fantastic (especially Rodrigo who looked after us at 3am). Rooms are basic and in need of more plug sockets (we had to unplug the tv to charge phones) but the location makes up for that.
The pub over the road is loud until 03.30am on weekend nights so plan accordingly.
