Downtown Reykjavik Apartments

We had our room broken into and our electronics (power banks & noise cancelling headphones) stolen, otherwise, we would have given this place a 5 ⭐️. The curtains were closed when we arrived late evening, so it never occurred to us to check that the windows were locked. We were out for about 10-hours the next day when our room was broken into. My partner was supposed to lock the window once we noticed it open, but I had woken him up to grab laundry before 7am, so he mustn’t have secured it properly. Strangely, my 1-piece bathing suit went missing as well as a few packets of freeze-drive food leftover from our trek - very strange. The hotel has many security cameras all around the hotel, so I hope they can identify the individual/s responsible. We filed a report with police and were advised that there had been an increase in theft in the downtown area for a while. On a positive note, the location was great- very close to main streets, coffee shops, restaurants, grocery stores, & museums. It was a 15-min walk to a nice laundromat, and a 1-2min walk to a bus stop that takes you to the bus terminal (BSI) to catch the airport bus. The room was clean & comfortable, had a kitchenette, and a sofa with TV, so I would probably stay there again, but double check locks, windows, & take any valuables with you.

This ended up being such a great find. The photos didn’t do it justice. The manager / check in person (Reza) allowed us not only to do laundry well before check in, but also allowed us to check in a couple hours early without the fee. (Yes, we spent the equivalent on laundry but man, what a tradeoff) Laundry is done via an app and Bluetooth to their washer and dryer - decent load size and dries large loads within the hour. Wonderful. Our suite was on the basement level, but still lots of light. It was clean and spacious and well stocked. Only thing missing would be a hairdryer but not a big deal. The water does smell like sulfur but only when hot water is running - it does taste like it too, which was a first in our 2 weeks in Iceland. That said, not a dealbreaker. Parking is free and plentiful. It’s not in the city centre but it’s a quick drive or you can walk within 15 min. I would certain stay here again.

We arrived unexpectedly -long story. The phone number on the door soon produced the kindness gentleman. He calmed me down and went about finding the six of us an apartment. Could not have been nicer - all the people we me there were great. Apartment served us very well. Lovely view of the Church from the balcony. Everything you need was provided. Clean and comfortable. Great location. Walked to restaurants and bus stop and thermal pool. Highly recommend.
