Wow! What a world class hotel in a beautiful and remote location. It is so beautiful inside and out with a world class restaurant. The staff was fabulous and the rooms were so clean, spacious, and elegant. We loved it. Such a treasure.

The Lava Spa was definitely very cool and the absolute highlight of the hotel; but I wouldn’t stay there again just for the spa. Stay somewhere better and visit a geothermal spa. We stayed two nights during a 11 night visit to Iceland. The check in receptionist wasn’t exactly rude but he certainly wasn’t welcoming either. The upkeep of the property is more inline with a discount chain hotel, not a high end Marriott property, breakfast was pretty weak for the price (even considering Iceland costs) and worst of all, there was a terrible smell of sulfur from the hot water in the bathroom. It was nauseating when showering and kept me up at night (spouse slept fine despite the smell).

This is NOT a 4-star hotel. I wouldn’t even consider it 2 star. The rooms are noisy, the bathroom is tiny, damp, moldy and the water reeks of sulfur. The onsite restaurant is insanely expensive for the food they served. We were unfortunately booked here for 2 nights and besides the lovely view on the drive in, I would never recommend this place to anyone. Marriott should be ashamed.
