Puri Pandan Restaurant and Bungalows

I stayed one night and left the next day. I'm a solo traveller and I came to Bali to rest. What I walked into was mould through the window frames and the timber lattice above the bed — the kind you can wipe onto your finger. Black grime built up around the door knobs. The shower head and taps so caked in limescale and mineral crust they clearly hadn't been properly cleaned in a very long time. Floors dirty enough that you wouldn't want to walk barefoot. And the bed. The quilt was stained — brown marks across it — and it had no cover on it. No top sheet either. Nothing between that quilt and me. I slept under it because it was late, arranging a taxi and a new hotel at that hour wasn't realistic, and I wasn't going to wear the cost of a second booking on the spot. That's the part I want other travellers to understand — by the time you're standing in the room, you've already lost the night. I photographed everything, dated, and checked out the next day. This restaurant is situated in a gorgeous out of the way spot, right on the water in Candidasa. It has lovely views across the Strait and serves very good, traditional Indonesian food. Such a lovely place for couples, family or friends to have a relaxing meal.

Stayed only one night 300,000 IDR walk-in tariff for a nice clean bungalow with private terrace in a garden setting. Comfortable bed, hot shower and very good lighting with plenty of power outlets (rare in many places in Bali) Breakfast included either continental or usual Indonesian nasi goreng. Restaurant at the rear overlooking the sea with direct access to a small beach where it's possible to swim - note virtually no beaches left in Candidasa due to previous environmental damage. Nice views across to Lombok. A pleasant short stay.
