Puri Dalem Cottages

This is a difficult one for me to write as it's the second time I stayed there after a very positive experience last year. How things have changed!! Apparently under new ownership, it has definitely gone downhill and basically requires a full renovation. The bedrooms themselves are pleasant enough however the daily cleaning routine doesn't seem to include things like dusting surfaces or washing net curtains. A regime for fixing broken drawers or switches doesn't seem to exist. Both the fridge and the cooler are old and noisy. The grossest thing however has to be the bathrooms. Ants everywhere, mould everywhere between the tiles, a filthy mouldy shower curtain which could easily be replaced for a couple of dollars. Taps are all loose and work intermittently. Pools of water collect on the tile floor as there is no drainage, etc. Twice in 10 days I received towels with stains where someone had wiped their butt with them. The staff simply replaced them and, I guess, tossed them in the laundry instead of tossing them out. Hopefully, the next guest won't notice! Outside, the grass growing through the tiles by the pool gives it a run-down look. Positives, the position in Ubud is great and near to all the facilities we needed. Free pick up from the airport was really useful, as were the free breakfasts. However, the negatives by far outweigh the positives this time, especially the towels! Did we report the problems - no because if we can see the obvious, I'm sure the professional management can too! Nice place but my suggestion is don't book until someone else blogs an improvement.

Please avoid this hotel because there is no services. Only they provide you room and no coffee or tea maker/kettle in room .....no restaurant.....no waiter .....no cook or chef......no security in night . It was my worst experience in this hotel.

I chose this hotel with a friend as they insisted on a pool, in a central location and at a realistic price for a two week stay in Ubud. It ticked all the boxes. The rooms are spacious and clean and the beds are very comfortable. I had a balcony room with a view of the pool and garden. Breakfast is limited to the cooked (eggs, toast and fruit) or not cooked (banana pancake and fruit) and coffee / tea. It doesn't sound like a lot, but is surprisingly filling, very tasty and the eggs are cooked absolutely spot on (I asked for "one sided"). The staff are very friendly and helpful, and reception are great for organising good local trips and reasonably priced taxis. The pool was clean and warm and the area around it was well maintained. Only "problem" was that the Wi-Fi wasn't great in my room, but it was fine outside, which was quite nice in a way - just cutting myself off from the world for a bit :-) All in all, a very impressive hotel for a very reasonable price!
